iChat/AIM question.

Whenever the computer goes into sleep mode, iChat and AIM sign off. Is there a way to set one of those so that it will stay signed on. I ususally like to have an away message up, which is why I would like to stay signed on.

Thanks

Is the phone near your router a cordless? Cause if it is there will be interference as both the wireless router and the phone work on the 2.4GHz spectrum.

Go into Applications > Utilities > Keychain > Preferences.

From there choose to show the keychain in the status bar.

Whenever you leave your computer, hit the lock in your status bar (near the clock) and hit lock screen.

This is the closest you can get to, because sleeping the computer closes off all power except to the RAM, so the internet connections and such are cut.

Or if you're not too concerned about the security of the computer while it's in your bedroom, you might set the computer to turn off the display but not completely fall asleep.

In Apple menu > System Preferences > Energy Saver you can set the Put computer to sleep... slider to Never and set the second one to some time that's good for you. When you actually go away for a while, you can just manually put it to sleep.

I do have that problem. When ever someone is on that phone, I lose internet connection untill they are off. Is there anyway around that???

I'll give that a try.

Yeah, get cordless phones that don't operate on the same 2.4GHz frequency as WiFi.

8mm tapes

I've posted this else where but I'm still pretty confused.

I have some 8mm home videos that I would like to work with using iMovie. From what I've read the 8mm tapes can only be transfered if you get a new camcoarder or a Dazzle like machine to pass the signal.

Are there any cheap ways to get the tapes onto the Mac? Buying a new camera or a box are both pricey.

Thanks

That's the solution right there. I had the same problem so I bought a cheap GE 900Mhz phone and my issues went away. With my 2.4Ghz model, I tried switching channels on the AP and the phone to no avail.

Do you have any friends that could help you out by lending you their camcorder?

Does anyone know if a Mac compatible 8mm and Hi8 converter box is available at Best Buy or Circuit City??
