I upgraded from a 6s plus to 12 pro, and struggled to find reasons to keep my 12 pro. I just could not connect with the display. Especially, the whites. Slowly Getting used to it. It is just 2 entirely different types of displays, and I feel the more warmer tone of the iPhone 12 Pro is better for the eyes with OLED. It has been 3 weeks now, and I’m slowly warming up to this display and starting to like it better.

Given all the hubbub about the camera, I was expecting more, but silly me. I have professional cameras and lenses. The iphone cameras--all of them--seem like toys by comparison. And when I actually get the images on my computer...yuck. Oversharpened and artificial. They fall apart easily and lack character. No thanks to the camera. It's junk to me, a tool to shoot quick snaps, throwaway pics, and qr codes.
The aphorism: "the best camera is the one you have with you" applies here. I don't carry around my dslr and lenses and improved camera function, through the generations of iphones, are welcome...as I take many photos of my family.

Agree, although I'm not sure why you'd feel stupid. I tried the Max. Boring. Does the same stuff as my 8 Plus, no better. Plus that notch...you can't unsee it. Lots of little things I dislike about the new design, too.

One thing the Max did for me was teach me to re-appreciate the 8. The home button, the bezels for holding, the better screen (for my eyes). All lovely. Actually iOS 14 made the 8 feel upgraded. Who needs a new phone?

Now I'm looking forward to getting a new battery for the 8 and keeping it as long as I can. Feels good not to waste money on stuff that doesn't add anything significant to your life.
A good point about individual tastes, preferences and subjectivity when evaluating and purchasing consumer electronic devices. As far as the notch...what notch? Don't see it, doesn't impede functions on phone imo.

Everyone will have their unique viewpoint on the price/value ratio of what a new iphone brings.

Agree. My hope was that the iPhone camera could almost replace my Sony mirrorless. It’s such a hassle when I travel to take the Sony with several lenses. And taking the Sony skiing... No (Well, of course, that’s not possible these days). I thought: just taking my iPhone 12 in a pocket is so much easier. But I can easily see which pictures I have taken with the Sony and which with the iPhone, although clearly the 12 is much better than the 7.

I feel you, returned 11 pro max to keep my 6s plus for another year. Didn´t like oled uneveness, artifacts in dark mode. Maybe if my oled was more close to perfect, then I would keept it. But I didn´t think it was that much of an upgrade either...if you are not taking lots of pictures I don´t think there is much of a benefit.

Don’t hold back..
Comparing pro or semi pro equipment to the iPhone is moot really.

The iPhone proudly carries the Pro name hence its begging for that comparison.
Plus to many the camera is the sole point to upgrade.

If you want to compare the iphone to "pro equipment", I guess one could go all the to half-million plus imax camera. o_O

When it comes to stuff with the pro sticker the sky’s the limit.

And another thing few have touched upon: as an 8+ user, I have $1550 more to my name than those who "upgraded" to the 12 Max Pro, and I don't miss the 12 Max Pro even a tiny bit. In fact, it was a relief to get rid of it. My best friend felt the same way and returned hers--she's holding on to the 7 Plus, which she still loves.

Plus, of course, there are now only about 8 months until the next iPhone is released, rendering the 12 Max yesterday's news.

Bottom line, though, is to live below your means. Every year that I happily hold on to an iPhone that I purchased (always outright) is another digit I can add to the denominator to lower my total cost of ownership. Now that's meaningful.

Phones are just objects--indeed shiny objects (playtoys) for many. If the 8+ is doing what you need and you're struggling to find the value in the 12, the decision is easier than easy.

Not feeling it, I bought on macbook air m1 and I love it but with the iphone I just not feeling it. I feel bad bringing it bad.
Interesting. For me it's the reverse. I ended up returning the Air M1 (16GB/1TB) due to not feeling it (with software side, size, battery size, etc) but keeping the 12 Pro Max due to camera. (fact that I came from 7 plus helps to some degree)

I almost returned my 12 Pro in order to keep using my 7+. Then, I decided I was going to keep the 12 and sell my 7. Finally, I decided to keep both phones.

I’ll sell my 12 Pro when the 13 comes out in order to maximize return (maybe a month before) and I still have a great backup phone at all times (7+).

Where does one purchase a new 8 plus in this day and age ? There’s no refurbed stock on Apple. Also the screen is small. I’m thinking sometimes I should have kept the XS Max.

I returned my 12 PM and got 12 pro. Best decision ever. Love everything about this phone.

You'd better get the iPhone XS Max.

Wishing for an 8 Plus this morning. My 8's battery life has gotten clobbered by IOS 14, from what I can tell.

YES, Love the Home button. I'm really missing it on my new iPad Air. I think I would miss it even more on my iPhone.
