The cap might not bother you now, but as the iPhone technology advances, you'll start using more and more data until you'll eventually want more past that 2GB.

It's the perfect opportunity for them to stop those high bandwidth users. If the power users are consuming 6-7GB now, think how much they'll consume when speeds are 4-5 times as fast.
 
2gb is decent enough for the few times i will need to tether. i chose to pay for tethering because it sure as hell beats spending $60/month for the separate line with 5gb a month data.

if you do break your 2gb cap, each 1gb thereafter is $10. i don't consider this "highly expensive" and if i do breach the 2gb cap, it is on par as far as price with the data connect plan for laptops.
