As the thread title says I can no longer edit anything on my External HDD (change name, delete, rename etc.).

First I used this HDD for my movies only.
After a few days I got the idea to use it as a TimeMachine backup as well at the same time. At first it worked great but slowly(it started with just a few) I could no longer edit my movies. I deactivated TimeMachine and wanted to delete the backup.backupdb but every time I try to delete something in the HDD it gives error 'Right: com.apple.desktopservices'

I have tried changing the permissions: Read and write
I have tried Repair Disc Permissions in Disc Utilities but the option is grayed out.

Is there anyway to get the permissions back? I COULD reformat the entire drive but I really want to keep my movies (150 GB worth).

INFO:
Mac OS 10.6.2
Movies are located on an external HDD connected through USB.
The EHDD is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and is 1TB in size.

My HDD is big enough to hold all my movies.
The thought has crossed my mind but the problem is if I move a movie to my HDD I STILL cannot edit it. It still belongs to desktopservices or whatever.

just a query, but if your movies have all got names, then why would you want to edit them?

hmm, can you edit the permissions via right clicking the drive?

I use unwatched/favourite/watched labels for my movies.
Also sometimes I want to delete some files or change the description.

Changing the permissions has no effect on wether or not I can edit it :/
I did it for the Entire HD and all it's contents but as you can see the options are still grayed out.
