This started happening out of nowhere! Must've been the new 1.8 firmware update on the MBP.

When I used to close the lid with the iPhone connected, the power to the USB ports would cut off. Not anymore.

Good to know. Now if only they'd release a fix for the stupid screen flickering on my late '08 MPB.

I think it was a previous OS update. I've been doing this for at least a few months now.
I still get the "winding" sound from my MBP when I eKe from sleep. That's what I thought the EFI update was supposed to eliminate.

thanks for the heads up... finally!!.... anyone know if it works for all the usb's? (3 on the 17")

not in front of my MBP is why i ask...

It only works for me when I have a power source connected. If not then t he iphone would not stay connected.

I bought my MBP in September and I've always been able to do this. I thought it was just the way it was built. It came with Snow Leopard and the 1.8 update already.

Well, the superdrive got the update today that actually fixes the winding sound when waking from sleep. 1.8 didn't do it by itself on my MBP.

And charging an iPhone while in sleep mode still works. So don't be afraid to update anything if you had reservations about doing so.
