If I launch Steam my 2009 MBP just freezes. Just 2 days ago it worked like a gem and since then no damage has been done to the laptop. No fluid, no physical contact, I haven't even moved it from the desk.

As I said, everything else works beautifully. What can I do?

I already checked the hard drive with CMD+R -> showed no damage. Also, I tried reinstalling Steam but it did me no good, laptop freezes every time.

I'm truly shocked, none of this make sense for me. What about you?

Try removing the ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/ folder and start Steam.

A system freeze is pretty darn crazy though. You should contact the Steam support and ask them if they want to take a look at it.
