The black looks really good on the Ultra. I will be watching how the finish holds up. After the Ultra first came out, everyone talked about how weak the finish is, and were taking mirco pictures of the scratches. My Ultra 1 is doing just fine with a real Ti band. It's showing minor wear that you can't see without a micro lens, and I never take mine off for the gym, fishing, yard work, working on my car etc. Its taken some hits with no significant wear - at least what I consider significant.

I have to think that no matter what the black won't be as spotless just because once you get through it, you will see bare metal with a lot of contrast. I also wonder if the crown will wear the black a little thing. The sharp edges of the crown that protect the glass are what take the bulk of the abuse.

Likely for most people the black will hold up great as long as you take some logical precautions.

I wondered this too. My Ultra 2 has scuffs all around the flat metal rim of the face, but nothing on the side of the case. I feel like it gets more scuffed than the regular model because of its sharp edge, compared to the slope of other models. It doesn't bother me, but I'd have to think that the black one would should worse if you scrape it against something.

The new band and watch are more than I can resist.
I had posted my upgrade criteria (from Ultra 2 w/SpO2) in an other thread, it was:
. blood pressure trends
. blood oxygen re-enabled
. sleep apnea
and black as the icing on the cake ...

Apple didn't deliver on 2 of my 4 criteria and I will stay strong ;)

which band?
the ice blue ocean band looks very nice with the black, I will get it when it is on sale sometime during the next year as Apple will likely discontinue it and I might get an Ultra 3 in black next year ;)

The black Apple Watch Ultra looks amazing, but unfortunately I am switching to Garmin because most of the selling points on the Ultra are better on a Garmin.

Worried about software updates?
Don't be afraid as the Series 9/Ultra 2 and Series 10 will drop support at the exact same time. (Coming from a developer)

I'm sticking with my Ultra1 but ordered the new Natural Titanium Milanese Loop – saves me money AND gives me the sensation of having something "new" :p
I'm very close to doing the same! Looks stunning that band - If I go to AWU3 in a year it would just be sad with that band but what ever :D

This guy covers the black ultra 2 colour in quite some detail suggesting that the DLC coating is quite tough

^^^I'm sure it will be tough, but if they take it through some of the testing they did on the original ultra, it could get interesting.

Anybody photograph the 49mm Ti black Milanese loop on a slate Ti series 10 watch? That's the combo I might get, but Apple's 50 shades of black make this impossible to decide without visiting an Apple Store.
