I was never interested in the 4S. I was absolutely irritated it wasn't a good upgrade but now I am happy to just wait for the iPhone 6.

So that gives you license to be a judgmental arsehole to random strangers?

Who peed in your Cheerios this morning?

Look. I think they know they made a "gotta have the newest toy" decision instead of the smart one. So I am not going to feel any guilt by calling a spade a spade and an idiot an idiot. It's nothing important to me, I'm just saying how it is.

theres loads for contract ppl in the uk just not pay n go...go figure

Not on O2.

My Mum qualified for her upgrade on Wednesday past, and every O2 store in Glasgow has no 16 or 32GB iPhone 4S in stock. Some have 64, but not many.

The stores have no idea when stock is back in, they don't get told by Head Office when they're getting stock or how much, and to add insult to injury they're running an offer for existing customers where the 16GB is free to upgrading customers on the £41 per month tariff (normally £49.99 for the phone).

Thing is right, it runs until November 30th, but Glasgow stores are quoting up to another two weeks without stock. So the offer could end before the stock comes in or you manage to find a store with stock. My Mum ended up going for an iPhone 4 8GB and loves it.

Ordered my iPhone 4S 8 days ago on Vodafone and still awaiting for my order to be allocated an iPhone 4S. Guess the 16GB White is in high demand, customer services said it could be another 2 weeks maximum :(

Interesting. So your valuation of the 4/4S differences vs the price is the only correct one? Anyone who sees the "value" of the changes from the 4 to 4S differently from you is an idiot?

That seems very myopic and self-centered. Just sayin...

everyday...there are always people qualify for the upgrade....so yes, expect shortage for many more months until they beef up the manufacturing :)

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4S: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

Usually with new iOS devices, the demand is greater than the initial supply. Sometimes I wonder if it's a marketing stragety to keep the hype up and increase sales based on people wanting something they can't get; at least right away.
I don't believe that Apple is creating artificial shortages to keep the hype up. But Apple (like Nintendo) DOES even out their manufacturing capacity over the life of a product. It's cheaper to maintain a steady manufacturing capacity than it is to have high front-end capacity for launch and then have to shut down factories (or retool them for other products) as demand for the product declines.

Compare the manufacturing for iPhones vs. the highest selling smartphone and then let's talk about any artificially created shortage.

The same claim was made against Nintendo with the Wii despite the fact that Nintendo was selling 2-3 times more Wii's than Xbox360 or PS3.

Hahaha, So we must be a family of morons getting 3 iPhone 4S's then... Funny how the 16GB 4S's cost <$300 each (Outright) after the sale of the old 3G and 3GS phones, and my daughter joined the ranks of the iPhone users when she got my "Old" iPhone 4, and selling her HTC and a couple of old phones we had almost entirely covered the cost of my 64GB 4S.

In real terms, it cost us just under $700 for 3 new phones, and 3 of us are on $30/month pre-paid plans, and my daughter still gets her $30 for 6 months plan, all including data! $2980 for 3 phones over 2 years, including the initial purchase price (plus the fact they are unlocked, so worth a lot more when you sell them, which is less relevent in the USA, but very relevent for most other countries). A typical $85 a month plan plus $300 for the phone is 2340 for the same 2 years, so I think we have a better deal ;)

but mine should be here from apple tuesday so im a happy bunny now :)

The demand in mainland China is HUGE and people (well, some of them) there got buck loads of money.

+

Apple not selling in China (at least not even by now) for some reason

=

profit in grey market and re-sellers buy all the phones they can get

I would guess a large part of the "problem" is the growing number of carriers/countries in which the iPhone is now available.

I checked for a friend yesterday while returning my bricked 4S. They have a good inventory of both colors now. Perhaps it's because I'm in an area of high demand. The replacement they gave me was just one of about six I saw being brought out to customers, three exchanges and three sales.

This battery problem is widespread. While waiting the guy next to me had the same problem that I did. After two weeks of crappy battery life the phone bricks and leaves you stranded.

Normally I'd be pretty unhappy, but after three new Antennagate iPhone 4's whose home buttons failed to work, I'm getting used to returning iPhones one after the other.

In my case I'm lucky because I'm just two miles from the Apple store. Yet it's still a pain in the ass to have to keep setting up phone after phone.

I'm hoping Tim Cook will care more about the customers. Jobs only cared about the money, his ego, bragging rights, and revenge on anyone he could target. Pity the poor man was so miserable. All that money did him no good.

I liked him before he let it all go to his head. Sad indeed.

I'll be able to buy a 4S on Tuesday. I started checking the availability of these on Thursday and every day since. Only one day, I think it was Friday, were there so phones available at two of the six stores in my area. They were mostly Verizon and Sprint and there were no 64GB models anywhere to be found. I want an AT&T 64GB white. I'll be checking every night now so I can get one reserved this week no matter what store I have to go to.

4S is an awful and pointless update to the 4.. anyone who buys the 4s is either someone who didn't have a 4 to begin with or is an idiot

I think it's a serious upgrade to the iPhone 4. I sold my 4 last week so I can get the 4S. Why? 64GB alone is worth the upgrade. I was out of space on my 4. Don't think I'll use SIRI all that much other than to entertain co-workers for a few minutes when I first get it.
