Make a youtube and make all your vids private then upload them to it. make sure you check the option unlisted. :)

i understand that there are email limitations. i don't think anyone is disputing this. but the iphone should have an option to compress the video so it can be sent. when you upload a video to youtube it gives you and option for HD or standard definition. this should be an option for emails as well

In that case, YouTube is doing the compression, not the iPhone.

Of course once the video was compressed enough to actually send in email everyone would complain about the quality and blame the iPhone for shooting crappy video

Agreed. By the time you compressed your video down to 10MB or less, it would probably be unrecognizable.

I think the op is looking for a solution off his iPhone rather than putting it onto a computer.

The whole YouTube suggestion makes sense

This.

Whenever you come across an issue like this, it's Apple's, your ISP's, your e-mail provider's, etc. not so subtle way of telling you to find an alternate way to accomplish this task. Using technology, you have to adapt. Anytime you say, "well I used to be able to do it this way", it should be a trigger in your mind to forget that way and try something new. As others have said, using YouTube or DropBox are perfectly viable ways to accomplish your objective while still maintaining the integrity of the video.

yup yup. drop box is the sh**. send me a PM with your email address and i'll send you a dropbox invite. will give you 250MB more space than just signing up alone

Then someone would make them look like an idiot by reminding them that THEY compressed the video themselves because the iPhone can't send HD videos over 1 minute long, even tho it records in HD.

In your last post, you said you "got it just fine"...and now you're back to blaming the iPhone. Log into your email on a computer and try to send a file that big, won't happen. Are you going to blame the computer?

If the objective here is really to send a video of a newborn to it's father who is in Iraq, the father would probably appreciate it if you took some advice given here by other posters to make it work; instead of continuing to complain that the way you're trying doesn't work.

My computer doesn't record video in 1080 so it's not expected to be able to send them. If it did and couldn't send them, yeah, that would be a problem. It would be like having a car that can go super fast, but can only hold less than a gallon of gas that lasts 30 seconds.

If you have a Mac, use the Image Capture app. It's awesome and doesn't compromise any of the quality. iPhoto does the same if you don't mind watching paint dry.

I ran into this problem as well when I had a problem with a neighbor and had to videotape his business activities for a court appearance but couldn't pull it off my iphone and Image Capture was a life saver. You may even be able to download Safari to windows and thereby download Image Capture to Windows. I know my Sis has a Windows computer which has Safari downloaded and she has downloaded many Mac apps (?? worth a try if you get no other satisfaction??)

Congrats, you missed the entire point of the post. Best of luck to you, you obviously need it.

Email may be your preferred way to send content, but it is not the only way
It has restrictions and limitations that are more strict than the iPhone's capabilities

There have been several suggestions made to get the high quality content from the iPhone to others

I prefer DropBox, but YouTube is a viable alternative as well
But there are others if you don't limit yourself only to email technology

Obviously the OP is not interested w/ any suggestions here. Let him figure it out while blaming his crappy iPhone

Lost cause, he will not accept any advice and still doesnt seem to get the limitations of email.
Let him cry and complain on his own.
Yes, its the iphones fault. Do us all a favor and return it.

I think it would be more like having a car that can go 150mph, but all the streets in the neighborhood limit you to 25. You can go rent time at the racetrack and unleash the full 150mph if you want, so that 150mph capability isn't a complete waste.

You can take the video, but the current state of networks and email systems make them an unsuitable transport. Maybe sometime in the future, but not now.

Try the youtube or dropbox methods already suggested -- I think you will find they aren't that difficult. And even if requires jumping through a couple hoops, isn't getting video of a soldier's newborn to him in Iraq worth the hassle?

Get it through your head, this is not an iPhone issue. It's an email issue.

True, the iPhone can't email 300MB attachments. Then again neither can any Android phone, Windows phone, or desktop computer either.

You need to choose an alternate method of sending your videos. Email won't work. Period.

No device will enable you to email a 300MB HD video file, so by your reasoning it is pointless for such a file to even exist.

As a messaging admin, if you tried to e-mail a 300MB file I'd be giving you a nice kick in the rear.

Wait.. my computer records video in 1080 and an hour long video is ~9gig.. did I get ripped off because my computer refuses to send it via email?!! How do I send this file with my computer? what a POS computer for not giving me a way of sending my 9gig video file! Apple... I want a friggin' refund, my computer will not send this video file.... piece of crap computer.

Frustrated!

Do any of you even own a iPhone? really people you have no advice here useful to the person asking the question. And I may not have a solution either as I found this post looking for the same answer.. so let me clarify what he's asking

When you email video the iPhone DOES compress it. every time!! Both the 4 and he 4s yes I have owned both! HOWEVER it (the iphone) caps the size of the video to under 5MB! THIS IS THE ISSUE!! Apple imposed a 5meg limit! ~30seconds video is 5MB after compression.. Now as you guys probably know most emails will allow up to 20MB/email – gmail and my work anyways.... so the basic question is HOW DO I INCREASE THE DEFALT 5MEG LIMIT APPLE HAS IMPOSED ON ME!! I don’t want more software I don’t want dropbox, I don’t want to have to go to anymore processes.. I want to hit “email video” and send it!

iMessage works great for videos. The size is reduced and it is sent very quickly. A one minute video is sent in a few seconds.

I've sent over 5mb videos from my iPhone and to another iPhone, without any problems. I've done it with MobileMe, gmail, msn and through iMessage.

This is an iPhone forum i'm sure most of these people posting have iPhones. People have given lots of suggestions but the OP goes back and still blames the iPhone when it's the email that is at fault.
