Think this will have a Impact on battery health since you’ll be charging the mini more frequently?

my 11 pro Max is at 90% right now, and I’ve had it at launch.
My 12 pro is out for delivery today but I’m not sure if I’m keeping it or not. And of course, 2 weeks from today is the release of the mini.. and the end of my return window. 😕
Personally, I've never seen unusually deteriorating battery health myself, and I charge multiple times a day via wired CarPlay. I think rapidly deteriorating battery health is more of a reflection of the quality of the battery itself (not all batteries are of equal quality from the factory, just like phones) than the charge habits.

Great point.
I must be the “lucky” one to have 90% after one year. Wife’s old 11 pro Max was at 96% after the same time.

Buy both. Use each for its specific use case. Pro or Pro Max for when you're travelling, and whip out your mini when you just want to use something small. iCloud will keep both devices in perfect sync all the time, so you can pick and go whichever you fancy at any point of time through the day.
Great idea. And OP, maybe you can buy me a Mini too while you’re at it! 🙏😂

Yeah, that is strange. I often wondered what this is, if some people's phones are just not measuring battery health properly, if it's a bad battery for some, or if it is truly the charging habits?
My regular 11 is still at 100% health now after I have had it for a year, and more surprisingly- my wife's XS Max that is now two years old is still at 98%. She is a very light user and it only gets charged maybe once per week, so I suppose in her case it is understandable to be that high?

How in the world do you only charge an iPhone once a week? I have had backup phones that I don’t pick up at all for 2 days need a charge every couple.

yeah, she may literally not even touch the phone more than a couple times per week- mostly only when going out of the house, and even then only uses it lightly for a couple of pictures or surfing the web for a few minutes in the car. The phone does well holding a charge when not in use- she has almost no apps that would be running in the background sucking battery....

Wow that incredible!

Yeah, She is not up for installing apps- so besides the basics that come on the phone along with WeChat (She is Chinese, uses it to talk to family back. home sometimes), she only uses the phone as an actual phone or to browse the web in Safari. Pretty basic! There are probably zero background processes running at any given time on the device. lol

That's your answer right there in bold.

As for battery life, it is listed as the same as for the Xs max, and everyone was pretty happy with that. Stop worrying about it, get the mini, and be happy.
True, they have the same in video playback. But audio playback is 15 hours less on the mini, which is one thing holding me back.

You could always initiate the return on the last day, and then you have 2 weeks to send it to Apple. That would give you time to compare. That's what I'm going to do.

It's like 50 hours of audio playback though for the Mini, and that's simply a metric. I don't know anyone who will play audio for 50 hours straight without plugging in. In a normal few hours of playback, you might see a 2-3% difference in battery loss.

I still plan to get the mini, but I went to my local apple store today and I held the 12 and 12 Pro, and I gotta tell you, that 12 is super tempting. They had it lined up 11 - 12 - 12 Pro, and wow, the 12 feels so much lighter than the Pro and so much easier to hold than the 11. With the flat sides, it feels bigger in the hand than my iPhone 7 4.7".

I know it's only 25g lighter than the pro but to me the feel was immediately noticeable, both in my hand and pocket. If I were to reconsider the mini, I absolutely would get the regular 12 and not the pro.

You're probably right. Will preorder and compare with my 12.

Exactly my thought. Got the 12 pro last Friday. Heavy as hell. Got the 12 today, it's noticeably lighter and easier to hold. Still gonna try the mini just for fun, but 12 may be the sweet spot. I'm coming from an X and the 12 is even lighter.

And the Mini is another 29 grams lighter than the 12 :)

My advice is if you’re only concern is battery life, just find 15-30 minutes a day (maybe while in the shower or something) to plug it in and charge up. Doing that will get you likely on equal footing with the 12/12 Pro battery life. But unless you use your phone for more than 5 hours SOT a day, I really don’t think battery will be a huge issue for most.
Yeah I have to get used to doing that with my 7.

And wireless charging makes it so easy to top up during day, I've read.

I really wanted an iPhone 12 mini.

BUT, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are a huge miss for Apple because of the OLED screen. What they should have done is use the same LCD screen as the iPhone 11 in both the 12 and 12 mini and the battery life would have been incredible given the new A14 chip efficiencies. BUT, that significant battery life would have been measurably better than the 12 pro series. Thus, Apple put all OLED screens on all iPhone 12s and forced us into a poorer battery life scenario, particularly if the device is using 5G. Both 12s have significantly worse battery life than the 11s they replaced. I'm sticking with the 11.
LCD backlights use way more power than OLEDs

radical suggestion: why not wait until
it's been out 10-days and read what people are saying about it?

each of the four phones has some aspect that appeals to most people, and some of them overlap / contradict.

this year the sense of entitlement across the forum extends beyond "why didn't they make the exact one I want?" to now being annoyed that there are features of 'the other three' that also appeal & complicate the decision.
