I have a Mac Pro with a 23 inch cinema attached.
I want my applications to be full size .
I drag the right hand corner down and it goes full size BUT as soon as i change a page within that application it goes back to almost max (just above the dock. its as if the dock is pushing the page higher.

When i click on the minimise and then click to open it opens again at almost full size just above the dock.
When i click on the green resize maximise button it goes back to where it was and stays there.

Something simple i am sure but i cant work it out.

Any ideas please.

What application are you using?

Have you tried turning on dock hiding?

Safari.

When i turn dock hiding on Safari opens in full screen. As soon as i turn dock hiding off it goes back to sitting above the dock.
If i move the dock to the right , safari opens in full mode.

Weird

Why is that weird? Windows resize to stay out of the way of the dock. It doesn't make any sense that you would want a window under the dock, rendering anything under the dock unclickable and unreadable.

But why do my other applications all open in full size below/behind the dock? Only safari doesnt.

Funnily enough its the same on my MBP so is it looks like its Safari.

Apps are supposed to do this when the window changes, not all do, but Safari's doing it right.

I didnt realise that. I have been using Firefox until today and thought my display wasnt working properly.

Thanks for clearing that up , really appreciated.

Yeah, never ever base "standard behavior" off of Firefox, it's a completely faked interface that behaves in the most non-standard of ways. For instance, press the green + button twice and you should end up with a tiny postage stamp window that can't be used for anything.

Understood.. BUT why does Itunes and Iphoto behave in the same way.i.e full screen underneath the dock.
