I began to tackle a project here yesterday to replace one of the posts that is rotting out on my elevated deck. This is a real PITA of a job because that 12' tall 6x6 post goes through a ground level deck and then is buried 3 feet deep down to a concrete footer. So, I take the ground level deck apart to get access and start digging with a digging bar and then a post hole digger to scoop out the dirt. My Watch pings, I look down and see it is about to dial a SOS call. I hit the "I am alright" button and then it asks me "did you fall"? After the third time I just took the watch off. LOL.

The AW is proving to be just a shiny toybox you wear on your wrist. It doesn't do anything that a phone can't do and what it does do is just, well, waste time. Toss the watch and get a quality timepiece. A phone requires less attention and is much more useful and versatile.

Do you own an AW? Have had mine since December and it has let me know that I was in AFIB- atrial fibrillation. I arrived at the local ER at 4 am because I had difficulty breathing. I was not sick and have no know medical problems.

After being hooked up to the machines, a very attractive blond female doctor looked up and said "Sir, you are in AFIB, we need to send you to the hospital". After arriving and going strait to my room, I was impressed, a cardiologist came in and explained everything to me. I ordered the AWU the next day. Two days later I was hooked up to a metal vest, knocked out and had a cardioversion procedure. AFIB was gone.

Ten days later, AFIB returned. The Apple Watch earned its cost again. I arrived at the hospital for a catheter ablation, a four hour procedure that cleared the AFIB again. Going on four months, I check my ECG every day. What a unique watch.

Unless you have used it, this toy box that doesn't do anything a phone can't do, is a bit misleading.

Unless you don’t want to carry a every growing in size phone with you?

If I’m doing construction I don’t have anything in my pockets and for sure don’t have any watches or rings on…that can turn out poorly

There is some truth to that its "a solution to a problem that doesn't exist." However I like watches, and with a face changing app, I can wear a different watch every day - there is that even if you don't use all the "smart" functions.

I use the health and sleep tracking, so that part is useful to me. I have all the notifications off, and I don't use it for messages or checking email. Its nice to have in a pinch though.

It is only an Apple Watch. How would you expect it to know the difference in a sudden stop from post hole digging from a fall?

Think about it.

Obviously the Apple Watch is not for you. I've had plenty of "quality timepieces" as my father was a watchmaker and I've been in the jewelry business for 35 years. I happen to prefer the Apple Watch to my "quality timepieces" as it's much more informative and is a lot more useful than a plain ol' watch.

I had basically stopped wearing watches until the Apple Watch came out as I had the time on my phone and no longer needed a watch. Now I can go without my phone and use my "toybox" for everything I need without a bulky phone in my pocket.

I have no use for a shiny piece of jewelry that only tells the time on my wrist as a status symbol. But hey! You do you.
We have our own style and opinions.

I’ve taken to just carrying an hour glass around. That traditional watch was just a waste of time.
