Will I have to pay for the first month there and then? Should I expect a $40 activation fee when I get to the store?

You'll be billed for your first month AFTER 30 days or so.

Activation fees may vary. I remember having to pay an activation fee for the first iPhone when I purchased it. I'm sure it's still done this way.

Why did you have to pay an activation fee?

I paid an initial activation fee (I think it was roughly $30).

This year my $18 fee was waived when i ordered my 4.

Maybe I didn't?

Maybe they waved it! I can't remember. (It's been years now!)

I think it has to do with your credit score.
It might have something to do with it among other factors. Mine is excellent 750+, I haven't been on contract for 3 years and I still have to pay it according to the text info. From what I've heard, it's complicated how they determine it.

Okay, but do I have to provide a credit card to AT&T then and there? Just wondering how much I'll have to have on my debit when I get there.

What?! I dont have that much on my card! I jsut have enough to pay for the phone...Is it this way if i pay cash also?

I don't think you can pay in cash. The last time I tried, my dad and I were going to split it between a credit card and cash, they wouldn't take it.
