I feel your pain. No matter what, it's a trip to the Apple store, the driving and waiting. Against my better judgment (hey, when do I ever have good judgment when it comes to new Apple products :D), I ordered the iPad 4 and got it this morning. The screen is incredibly yellow compared to my iPad 3. In fact, I never knew how good that 3’s screen was until now! I used to chuckle at the screen OCDers, but no more. Darn it, anyway. I'm wondering if this is the glue they use and if it will get whiter or if this yellow is here to stay. I might wait until early next week to find out.

And yes, I know this problem is minor compared to not having power, gas, etc., but this is an Apple forum, and in case anyone else has this problem, I want you to know you're not alone. I've had a lot of Apple products, very often an early adopter, and this is the first product with a problem, so I'd say that's a pretty good average!

OP, I hope they have one for exchange for you at the store. EDIT: Just saw you already got it! :)

It is what happens when you crawl into a dark closet and turn the brightness on high while displaying a black screen! Other than that you would not see it!:p

Exactly. Ya know, there are millions of iPad users out there that aren't on these forums and their iPads might have the same issue (if that's what you want to call it). But you know what, they're not looking for problems or flaws and they just use it and enjoy it. I guess if you sit in a dark room looking at a black screen, then you definitely have a problem.

One word.

LG

Seriously, did they not learn their lesson?!?!

I will wait a week or so to see how this pans out, was looking to upgrade to iPad 4 from the 3 but as of now I'm standing pat. It makes you appreciate your launch iPad 3 Samsung display that's for sure.

Is it at least uniform in its yellowness?

Yes, it's uniform, and downright ugly in my opinion. My iPad 3 looks as if you can look inside it it's so clear, and the 4 I have is just dull and yellow. :( I justified this upgrade by getting a Gazelle price of $500 on my iPad 3 64GB LTE and downgrading to just WiFi on this one. If this is what screens on the 4 all look like, it's going back and I'll stick with the 3 for now. After all, the 3 worked just great earlier this morning, and I just called it one of my most prized possessions a couple weeks ago. There is a very marked difference between the two. I'll exchange it and give it another chance, though.

"People" do not like the term but it is just one of many people who have Obsessive-compulsive disorder OCD

It is sad as it stops them from just relaxing and enjoying the hardware. I refuse to crawl into a dark closet to even check. I am liking my mini but looking more forward to my iPad 4 LTE later this month!

What closet? I did my test in the bathroom as its one of few places sans windows in my home.;)

The camera does seem to over exaggerate the issue. This one doesn't look great on picture, but in reality it's very good. Less backlight bleed, a bit of color shift.

I'm not sure if I'm 100% happy with it, so I might just return it and say screw it. Friend got a mini and this thing feels like a brick anyways. Might wait until next release, hopefully thinner.

My screen is flawless. 100% brightness with a solid black has no bleed ans none of this

Yesterday I got an Ipad 4 from an AS. When I came back I realized a slight light leak but it didnt bother. Then I realized this caused screen to be uneven at any color, not only black. It is not so pleasant to have semi-yellowish semi-bluish display. I returned it and asked for a swap. We opened 3 new units. 2 of them had obvious light leakage and 1 of them had a dead pixel. Got my money back.

What is interesting is all the display units were perfect. I inspected all of them, no issues whatsoever.

I always thought apple has good quality check and premium products. What a disappointment.

Hey. I have a very small amount of bleed through. But you never notice it while in apps. I don't think I am going to take it back and get another. A small amount is normal right? Or should there be none?

The 12 Retina MBP's was the clue for me.

My second iPad 4 got the same issue (Already exchanged the first one for the same issue).

100% brightness

iPad4's screen seems overwhelming brightness across the screen compare to iPad3.

It's hard to see if there is another light source in room but very annoying when watching movie in a very dark room.

I'll wait for the stability in production of iPad4 for at least 2 months then I will definitely exchange another one.

What stability? There's no difference in the production of the screen assembly from the iPad 3. I went through 5 of those to get an ok one. Nothing has changed. You can wait all you like but the only guarantee is there's no guarantee.

I went through a dozen iPad 2 and 3's over the course of a year. You can wait all you want, but your odds won't change.

For comparison, here's a image of my Mini's screen at full brightness.

Handheld, D40 1/6 sec @ ISO1600

My mini's screen is perfect that why I have a complaint about my ipad4's screen.

I went to my local store yesterday and had a comparison between mine and in-store ipad4. Both are in max brightness.

If I try to get an exchange the odd won't change. Stay with my current ipad4, happy like a pig under sunshine .

Bad quality control ever made by Apple...

What does it look like with some apps running? I guess I don't "get" the picture you posted ... is that a black image with the brightness turned way up?

That is exactly what that is... I love how people look for problems to complain about.

Are u seriously staying with that? It's day & night IMO.

Seriously to all those saying it's normal then why out of the 24 on display at the apple stores do none of them have similar issues?

When watching movie with letter box in a dark room you'll see how beautiful it is with light bleeding. Otherwise, web surfing's normally in white background. So, inconsistency in one colour will be easy to indicate.
