Respect for the job done, though maybe repasting the GPU next time?

----------

Does repasting reduce the max temp? Been thinking of doing it on my retina

It does indeed my mini would hit 95'c+ during long encodes. Now it's sits at 75-80'c

Thanks for the inspiration OP. I placed 8 holes in the same area as you.

Doesn't look quite as pretty as yours but seems functional. I seem to idle slightly less hot than before.

Cooling in CMBP is crap, thats why

Perhaps but I own a cMBP along with a rMBP and again your temps are not what I'm experiencing. I'm not trying to sound adversarial, but there may have been other alternatives.

I dont know, it takes a lot of dismantling...
No more then dismantling it for drilling holes.

Not taken, what other alternatives do I have?, I already have my Cmbp in a cooling pad with a fan

For Repasting I have to take out all the motherboard out

Nice mod

First... That is a neat job!

My MBP is in repair shop now for the 3rd time. Same issue happening! First they change the logic board (apple warranty) and work for a month, then send it to a repair shop who just reflow the gpu and work for less than a month. Now I found a repair shop who will REBALL the GPU (not reflow) and they will use lead base for it. Fingers cross.. hope they will fix the problem. They will give me at least 6months warranty.

I am planning to drill a hole on my MBP once my unit is returned. I know no matter what type of lead they will use for the GPU that MBP will get hot and obviously cause problems in the long run. I don't mind putting holes at the back of my mbp as long it would be as neat as the OP does, Oh man... I saw worst but all they are saying it helps the airflow. Airflow is what I need for my Mac. I saw this post also where the owner took time to experiment the airflow coming in and out of the unit.

Here's the link:

Thanks!

I was worried that my mbp was getting hotter, is not new (late 2011) so I started to investigate and I found a lot of opinions about air flow and engineering (?), but last time I clean my MBP I found this:

That make me realize that I just need a few holes in the right place, so I bought a spare botton cover and drill this holes:

Now my MBP is running 5 or 6 degrees celcius coller in idle than before.

Just want it to share :D
