I went to try and see a genius this weekend. I had to go to three stores before I could get an appointment to see someone (Regent Street, Bluewater and then Lakeside), and when I eventually did it was 40 minutes behind schedule.

The guy who was doing it didn't seem that sympathetic, and I was pretty annoyed that he didn't apologise for making me wait all that time.

If anyone was interested, the repair estimate amounted to £531.30.

That are the parts in detail? It replaces the main body + the LCD assembly?

It was:

£259 for a glossy display
£138 for the top case with keyboard
£65 for hardware repair level 2
£69.30 VAT
£531.30 Total

Something which I really can't afford after forking out £2200 on the laptop in the first place.

yours originally cost 2200 pounds? what kind of upgrades u have on it?

138 pounds for top case + keyboard is a bargain. But i dun think u need the display. It seems very intact.

If they caught they guy who assaulted you, make sure you get with the District Attorney or Municipal Prosecutor and give them pictures of the damage and an repair estimate.

You may as well let the scumbag who assaulted you ultimately pay for the damage.

Everything basically.

2.8 GHz processor and the 128GB SSD option.

It was 4 of them, and although they have CCTV they can't identify any of them unfortunately.

It does look like I may be covered by insurance, so that is looking good.

Sorry to hear that and i hope you're alright. You're very lucky that they didn't take your MBP. A couple days ago at my college, some guys robbed a student asking for his iPhone. :(

Is there any kind of diagnostic check that I can do to make sure that none of the internal components are damaged?

Insert the Leopard disc into your superdrive and reboot while holding the 'D' key.

This will bring up the diagnostic software and you should run a full test a few time to see if everything checks out.

Hope that helps.

Glyn.

hahahaha NO!! are you serious? Applecare is Warranty, not Insurace.

Warranty just covers manurfacturer defects, if you damage it yourself you need insurance.

I'm sure they were looking for someone to laugh at them, and not a solution to their problem.

i am curious. what insurance (and where) did you guys take out to cover damages for your laptop? forgive me but i've never had insurance on my computers so i am curious. i just make sure that my computers were snug, and zipped up in my bag before i ever went anywhere. the last thing i need is for my data to get screwed by some unforseen accident and have to pay out the nose for it.
