I pulled the trigger after many years of wanting to go over to Mac.

I Have the expendable income now to afford what I WANT rather then need, house is paid for and kids moved out in the past year. I bought this imac as a reward to myself for once.

I do a lot of raw file photo editing and am getting into video editing, these are my purchased specs;

27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display
With the following configuration:
4.2GHz quad-core 7th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz
16GB 2400MHz DDR4
1TB SSD
Radeon Pro 580 with 8GB video memory
Magic Mouse 2 + Magic Trackpad 2
Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad - US English
Accessory Kit

Edited for weird copy/paste of the specs from apple site.

Congrats! I understand. Setup my new iMac yesterday and will finish setting up the wife's tomorrow.

Wait, I thought i just left the dark side,"they" said I'd be enlightened by this purchase....so confused.

Thanks.

Some refer to it as the dark side in the world full of Windows machines. But this is truly the Rebel side and you will be enlightened and do things easily using the thoughtfully engineered MacOS.
Fanboy hat off.

Now how the F*** do I get this.... Wait nevermind creates new thread.

That is one powerful machine. That will give you good service for a good 7 plus years.

Yeah, I'm hoping at least that, and by then I'll probably open it up and replace whatever is necessary to keep it going a while longer.

I don't tend to buy computers very often, the pc I'm on right now is 8 years old and works fine for surfing the web but it's painfully slow with lightroom and I don't even bother with photoshop, it hardly opens the program.

To be honest I have a backlog of well over 1000 RAW files that I won't bother processing until I get a machine that can run the programs efficiently.

Lol. I’m not waiting that long to buy a Mac. The house will pay for itself, and the kids can get jobs at Burger King...lol.

I'm in a similar situation to you and that's the configuration I went for (but with a UK keyboard). It's a superb machine: enjoy!

congrats! enjoy the machine, it should give you years of fun and productivity...
and did they tell you that “our” side has cookies

The good news is that iMacs are about as cheap on Cyber Monday as you can find them. Adorama dropped their prices to meet what B&H had done the week before Black Friday. So on iMacs you can get from $100 to $250 off depending on the configuration. Naturally no shipping or sales tax outside of NY & NJ.

We are loving our new iMacs. I already reformatted and boxed the MacBooks that will be sold to family members. They get a good deal also.

So tempted to replace my 2014 27" iMac with a 2017 ....

I have been a PC guy for 30+ years. I got a retina MacBook a couple years ago when they first came out and have enjoyed it. With the $200 Black Friday discount on the 27", I also ordered my first iMac. Can't wait to get it. I know I will love it.

Yea, that's exactly the model I had picked out, but I might just wait until next year for the MacBook Pro. I have feeling it's gonna be a big update.

well this new machine I got today will take some time to get used to. Coming from the PC world I don't really know my way around.

One thing I'd like to do is figure on how to have my pages open in full screen rather than half the screen as they do by default now.

I had the same issue when I got my MacBook a couple years ago. I like it that way now for most things; but have to expand for some programs. With the big IMac screen, it should be even better.

Yeah, after only a few hours last night I think I’m already getting used to it.

I’m really liking the track pad, never used anything like this either but find it a lot easier to use than a mouse especially with the sensitivity/speed cranked up all the way
