Don’t care about reselling my iPhone I just want to keep it for 4 more years with frequent battery changes, I’m tired of replacing my screen protector every 2 weeks because they always crack randomly on me, I also am tired of getting dust particles stuck under them while applying them. Should I finally ditch it and just enjoy the naked screen? I’ll still use a good case of course.

I have a RhinoShield 3D Impact which feels like glass but can flex like plastic so it won’t crack.

IMO a scratch or smudges from worn-off oleophobic coating are very annoying on the actual screen, it is bound to happen way before the end of the four-year period and will be the reason I would ditch the phone.

I haven’t even gotten to use the olephobic coating on my iPhone since I always used a screen protector with it since day one. It feels so much nicer without one.

Depends. If you don't care about resell value, then just go without one. I think the XR is still using an older version of gorilla glass/coating that it is not as soft and easily "scratched" as newer iPhones like the 11 onwards.
I personally would just replace your current screen protector with a new one. They're cheap, and I'm sure your current screen protector has gathered a lot of micro scratches.

It all depends on wether you want to keep using them or ditch them. Me personally, I like the feel of the screen protectors on my phone, and I always buy the 2.5D screen protectors that go all the way to the edge so a lot of the times I can’t tell where the screen protector end and I’m using a bumper on my Pro Max, so my phone also isn’t heavy, and I can show off the Pacific Blue color.

If you intend on going without a screen protector, make sure you dust off the inside of your pockets regularly. Stray grains of sand are the main culprits behind scratched screens. And only clean your screen with a moist microfibre cloth, absolutely no alcohol.

Also, there are tricks to minimise dust getting trapped under your screen protector during installation, and our favourite one is the "shower method". Basically, you steam up your bathroom by leaving hot water from your shower running. Once it gets all foggy and steamy, turn off the shower, and let the steam settle. You can leave your bathroom while waiting for the steam to settle, but make sure the doors remain closed. When the steam has settled, go ahead and install your screen protector in your bathroom. The steam would have brought most of the dust particles down so you can take your time with your screen protector now.

Another important tip is to ensure you're not wearing long sleeves while installing screen protectors.

Hope this helps you out a little. Cheers!

Same here. Works like a champ without any worry about cracking the glass screen protector. Although, I’ve never cracked one to begin with when I started using glass screens protectors about 3 years ago.
