in my particular case

just curious why you guys are selling the Mini? Is it because you already have the iPad 4? I just sold my Nexus 7 to wait for the new Nexus but when none was announced at IO I decided to try out the iPad Mini. Seems great...

I really liked the Mini, but the resolution was brutal on my eyes, after 4 and half months I just couldn't deal with it any more. Sold it this morning. If I get something portable besides my iPhone, it'll be a rMBP. I've tried every regular iPad from 2 to 4 too. Any iPad is just not for me for a variety of reasons.

So for instance, I'm on the couch watching TV now and surfing on Macrumors. What am I using? My iPhone. Why? Because it's always on me. And for this reason and this reason alone, my iPad gets a lot less use. If the iPad did something the iPhone couldn't, then maybe things would be different

Dude, I gotta call super lazy on your arsse. Seriously, it takes two seconds to pick up your iPad. You sacrifice the usability of a bigger screen just because you don't want to get up off the sofa? Surfing these forums on an iPhone is not a great experience - constant scrolling, barely see much at all on screen. It's stressing your eyes and you don't even know it.

Don't mean to have a go at you, just saying that this way of thinking floors me.

I couldnt see myself owning an full ipad with a mini. If i had to choose I will always go for the mini though.

My old ipad 3 was so heavy and cumbersome. It unfortunately it's a deal breaker for me now. Despite owning every iteration of ipad since the original. And even if they are able to improve the weight, I still prefer the size and battery life of the mini.

I take it everywhere and it's a great asset for work. On top of that it is a verizon ipad, so my lte speeds are over 15mpbs. So where ever i go it's almost like i have my broadband connection with me.

I sold my iPad 2 and bought a Mini back in November. Regretted that decision sorely. The Mini, like you said, was just too small after having used a full sized iPad for so long.

I love how people always say the mini screen is horrible! I can't read anything, I can't see anything! As I type this on my mini, what did you do a few years ago? Could you not use a computer? The screen had to be horrible! I assume you didn't own an iPad 1 or 2, or an iPhone or iPhone 3G. How could you function with that screen?!?!?

We get used to better things. I loved my palm pilot, but I would never use it now instead of my iPad.

It seems like the mini was built to bring out strong opinions in all of us. I was in a position to sell my iPad 3, and I am interested in the next refresh of the large iPad, so I decided to pick up a mini to use in the meantime.

Coming from a higher resolution display, the non-retina screen was jarring at first. After a few days, though, I am surprised at how little I notice it. It's still a higher pixel density than the 2, and resolution aside, the screen is beautiful. I will have no problem living on the mini until Apple releases the 5, and even then, I'll probably keep it around.

Bet the OP goes to the iPad 5 when it is released after liking the weight and portability of the Mini.

Any takers? :)

My wife has a iPad 2 16 GB wifi only and I have an iPad 3 16 GB AT&T model. I am considering buying a 16 GB wifi only black mini to use for myself and giving my wife my iPad 3. I would sell the iPad 2 to pay for the iPad mini so I am not really out any money. She gets the same size ipad that is newer and better screen, I get the smaller, lighter form factor that I am looking for. Then when the new retina model comes out eventually, upgrade to that and give my iPad mini to my daughter (she currently uses a crappy Coby android tablet for some basic games and stuff. I figure if she breaks it I am not out much).

Downgrading is much harder than upgrading. Having a rMBP and an iPhone, its difficult to want to use a tablet that doesn't have a retina display. There's not really anything fundamentally wrong with the iPad Mini...its the other devices that make it inferior (in my opinion).

I would say I agree to a point. But when people say their eyes are suffering and yada yada yada. Get serious. The iPad mini is a great device.

not in my case. i have an iphone 5, iphone 4S, ipad 3 retina, macbook pro retina and yet i have no complains with my ipad mini. i don't find it inferior to all my other retina devices. in fact i grab it more than my ipad 3 when going somewhere. just can't understand people's complains about it's screen resolution. to me it's just the same, retina or not.

I'm waiting for the new iPad 5.
I already have an iPad mini. Apple refers to it as the iPhone 4.
I will be using the full sized iPad for primarily textbooks and note-taking followed by movies.

For me it's not the lack of retina, it's the tiny dot pitch that really strains my eyes. I love the form factor of the mini but everything is too tiny for my eyesight. So I think I'm cursed to have to use larger tablets as a result...

Two each their own. I found the resolution to be paltry. The actual screen size was not pleasant either after having been used to a full sized iPad.

I think the mini looks far sexier than the current iPad, but I guess I will have wait and see how the iPad 5 fairs to the mini. I had the iPad 3 But i hated the design and the weight hopefully they fix it with the 5 the humongous bazel and thickness were some of its pitfalls.

This is me exactly. Mini after owning every other ipad. Verizon so it truely is useful anywhere without having to fidget with a hotspot.

Also my phone is AT&T so if one is getting a better signal than the other I'm still good. I also tether to each other if I ever need to do an update larger than 50MB.

Also the retina display is a pleasure to read on.

I sometimes think about selling my Mini and getting the the iPad 4 for this exact reason. Only 2 things stopping me at this point: 1) Love the size of the Mini over the regular iPad, 2) Knowing that the Mini 2 (possibly with a retina display) and iPad 5 will be coming out in just a few months.

i have owned all versions of the ipad and i do sorely miss the retina display. especially pdf reading but the form factor for games and transporting on the mini outweigh it. i picked up the nook hd+ because its dirt cheap now for reading at home and such which pains me as im an only apple guy. i think even with a retina mini for most of my uses the nook hd+ is serviceable for reading pdf's and using zinio at home as this and my ipad 4 were otherwise too big to carry around all the time. the mini is insanely convienant. just my 2 cents and i know people complain but yes as a diehard apple guy who has tried every one of their products for certain reading the mini does strain my eyes. i really dont feel from personal experience its a dealbreaker at all but a retina display would help a bunch and we will get it eventually. just my 2 cents

Funny thing is put the Mini's specs on an android tablet at this stage of the game and very few would buy it regardless it has nice size and weight.

You must know by now that spec mean very little in the mobile world. A great ecosystem and smoothness trumps specs.

Nexus has shot there load in terms of specs, this is probably why u didn't see a new one. The same for Samsung, it will be interesting to see the strategy for the next 6 months.
