I get it - everyone's got a bug for the Neo. I wasn't even looking to upgrade my M4 MBP base model but Tahoe killed my battery life. I have absolutely NO interest in a 8GB/ChromeMacbook...

I'm thrilled with the 24GB/1Tb 15" MBA I got. Absurdly fast, light, comfortable and the speakers and battery life are on par with the MBP. So that's my take and I'm sticking to it... 😛😛😛😛😛

Which colour did you end up getting?

I have 13” and 15” MBA and couldn’t be happier with my 15”. I gave the 13” to my daughter. Light, big screen, good speaker (and good battery obviously).

yup, absolutely love my 13” 24gb/1tb m5 air. Wasn’t expecting for it to feel like much of an upgrade over my m2 air but definitely much snappier

Yes i was taken aback how good the speakers are on the 15”, but agree with the OP it’s an incredible laptop, best bang for buck macbook imo (serious bang tho).

I have an M4 Pro 14" that I really love, it's a perfect laptop other than it being somewhat bulky/heavy. I know the weight difference isn't too much on paper between the 13" Air and 14" Pro but after trying the 13" Air out at the Apple Store I just went ahead and bought it. It is hard to describe how much better it is to use this Air on the sofa/bed/chair, etc than the 14" Pro but there is just something that makes the Air more fun to use as a laptop. I am keeping the M4 Pro as a desktop and leaving it connected to my Apple Studio Displays and will take the Air on trips/work, etc.

I love mine too! Huge upgrade from what I'm used to (Intel i5-8500, 16GB DDR 3200, RX6600 XT).

Yep, turns out different users have different needs. It’s a “good/better/best” lineup and you’re not likely to jump down two levels.

A bit curious about the idea of replacing a very recent M4 MacBook Pro that somehow got “killed” by Tahoe with an M5 Air that can only run Tahoe...

I have no idea what happened to my M4... After wiping it and reinstalling Tahoe I was getting 4 hours of SOT doing basic web browsing- office stuff. I have no clue.

And you dont have Apple care? I would atleast look into getting it fixed. Im assuming its a rogue process in the background killing the battery on it

Was this after you let it finish doing all the indexing and whatnot it does after a fresh installation? Gotta concur with the poster above -- definitely not normal behavior. There are definitely troubleshooting steps to take if you haven't already parted with the machine.

A different bizarre problem happened a few weeks before Tahoe. The screen randomly cracked. It was still within the original warranty window (and I also had Applecare). I took it into the store, they agreed it was a manufacturer defect and they put another screen in. Two weeks later I upgraded to Tahoe 26.4 and then the battery just drained way too fast. I let it index and used it the same way I normally had.

When running activity monitor, it claimed the culprit was the mail app. A few days later, I wiped it, reinstalled everything and 4 hours of SOT. It's possible I just had a funky model but I had enough...

So what did you end up doing with this machine? Did you trade it in?

Can you install Sequoia? This is the reason mine still stay away from Tahoe.

I'm just going to reiterate how much I like this M5 MBA... It's so interesting (and predictable) that when people are happy with an Apple product, they generally don't post here. Something goes wrong, or Apple screws up or does something we don't agree with... BOOM... Dozens of threads!! 🙄🙄🙄

I’m really struggling with the idea of “downgrading” from the M1 Pro MacBook Pro. I absolutely love the bigger screen of the Air, but if feels like you give up so much…screen, speakers, keyboard. Is it worth it?

If you’re going to a 15” air, the speakers are actually quite good. Same speaker set up as the pro model. Keyboards are also the same, so really out of those 3 areas, it’s the screen. But again, a 2.5k screen, 500 nit with P3 colour accuracy, it’s hardly a bad screen

I like my fancier screens, I have high refresh screens on my phones, my gaming pc, even my wife has a legion 5 laptop with a 165hz OLED screen. But I have no issues with my air, it’s still a great screen to look at.

Yes when you compare them side by side, you see the difference, but once you just use the screen in the air on its own, you really don’t notice the difference pretty quickly. Just my take on it

I just today went from a 16" M1 Pro to an M5 15" Air. (Have had various Pro's for years) I compared the 2 side by side and the difference in screens is so small that I now don't notice it. The Pro for sure NOT $1000 better. I don't need the fans and fancy screen and extra ports, etc.

Not to mention the weight difference...That's one of the things I greatly appreciate.

That's awesome that you are so pleased with your MBA. What about thermals? Have you noticed it getting hot when you use it?
