From the looks of it, it will cover up just the edge seams on the front and back, which seems like the right approach - however with my "official" iPad case it is a similar setup and the issue is that under that small area of coverage it is a dirt magnet and constantly needs cleaning out.

99.999% of all cases are dirt magnets. When you create a space against a surface it's bound to collect dirt, dust and boogers.

Funny, my first thought was it was like taking the cushions off the couch looking under there. :D
