I found an iphone 3 next to a river, maybe months after someone lost it, i'm attempting to contact the original owner (i can see his settings, email address, etc). It has no service so I'm assuming he contacted ATT or whoever about the loss, etc. I charged it up, the phone apparently needs a new screen (funny marks on it but is totally readable) and the app button doesn't work. If the original owner doesn't reply back or doesn't want it back, like if he got it replaced by insurance, I'm thinking of keeping it, replacing the complete front screen including the button, I'm thinking it's maybe $70 for that, diy... Do you think this would be worth it? Will I be able to buy a plan for this phone and get it activated? I can see the serial number in the settings screen. If this is all possible, is it still worth it? Would $70 buy me a used iphone anyway without all this work..?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-gb) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

A complete 3G front is cheaper than $70 if I were u I would get it in a tub of rice somewhere warm for a week or so

The rice is definitely a good idea. However, I don't know how easy it may be to fix the home button. I feel like that would be a different piece all together and not necessarily included in the capacitive touchscreen board.

Will do

Yeah I'll do that rice thing immidiately. I saw a complete screen at http://www.directfix.com/mm5/mercha...T&Product_Code=IP-2164&Category_Code=IPHONE3G
It's just the first link I found, i see others that don't include everything but I'm thinking the whole ENTIRE front panel is what I need to replace, LCD, plastic cover, home button, and "digitizer". You got other info or cheaper prices than $79 lemme know please, thanks.

Contact folks in his address book. His family members, folks with the same last name.... Do the right thing. You'd want folks to help you find your phone, wouldn't you?

will do, the contacting his contacts thing.
Someone emailed me once from a friend's sidekick. They said they had found his sidekick on the grass on campus (I work in a university). They asked me if I could contact him and tell him where to meet the finder. I contacted my friend, and he met the finder and got his phone back. It's worth a try.

There's never a wrong time to do the right thing.

I agree, look in the contacts for ones like:
Mom
Dad
Sister
Brother
Work
Home
etc.
If you email &/or text them all, you'll get an answer I'm sure.

OP an iPhone 5 MIGHT just fall out of the sky for you :apple::apple::apple::D:D

Neh that's some magical ******** that Apple doesn't provide past the reality distortion field :D :D But good work!
