I turned my computer on yesterday and saw what I thought was a fleck of dust on the screen, turns out it's a small scratch or dent. I have no idea how it got there. I'm incredibly careful with my tech. So yesterday afternoon I took it to Best Buy since I have Geek Squad protection which covers accidental damage. I asked them what my best bet was and they said deal with it. If I sent it in to Geek Squad to have the screen replaced they'd just send it back and say it's only cosmetic damage and doesn't affect the use of the computer. Obviously, this is true. It's the smallest crack ever but I'm a designer and I'm looking at my screen very close all the time on Photoshop and such. I know I'm being incredibly anal about this but does anyone have any other advice, besides deal with it? I'm guessing talking to Apple wouldn't do anything and I'm also guessing paying for a replacement screen would cost tons of money. I'm just curious what/if any, my options are?

Pay to replace the screen or deal with it. Not sure what else you are expecting.

My question was is there any way Apple would help or should I see what a different Best Buy says or is it just out of pocket to replace?

Apple would surely take your money and replace the screen, but they're not going to cover cosmetic damage.

If you want to, but most likely you're just gonna have to pay out of pocket.

Schedule a Genius bar appointment if you have Apple Care, they might treat it as a defect if you have the right attitude and replace for free...

I have the same situation. I noticed what I thought was a tiny bit of dust on my rMBP screen, but it wouldn’t wipe off and it turns out to be a tiny divot in the screen. I don’t know how it occurred, I keep my laptop in a zip-up case when transporting it and I never put anything on the keyboard when closing it.

The pit is 3 pixels wide and approximately circular.

It's an imperfection in the aniti reflective coating. I've seen iPad Air 2's that have had little specks on the screen. It may have been there since you bought it but you're just barely noticing it.

Does that mean that Apple might do something about it? If it's "defective"?

Mine is a very small line probably two pixel or three pixel width.

I'm the asme though, my computer is always in an Incase sleeve when I'm not using it. I never use it anywhere outside. I make sure nothing is on the screen when I close it. The part that sucks is I noticed it Monday but not Sunday which means it must have happened late at night or in the morning and I had just ordered a screen protector for the screen to protect from fingerprints. If I had put it on a night earlier it would have been fine probably.
