I received my i7 and after reading all the posts here about:

    1) flickering
    2) grumbling
    3) specks of dust
    4) backlight problems
    5) dead pixels
    6) etc., etc., etc.

I have decided to just give up looking for problems and just start enjoying the machine for what it is - a really nice looking computer.

Seriously, I know I am a bit OCD but this was just getting to point of being ludicrous.

So to all others in the same boat, I wish you well. Hopefully I can get on with my life now.

I think this is sound advice. I examined my i7 when it arrived to make sure that there were no defects that would warrant it being returned.

I did find a speck of dust on the screen and thought I had a dead pixel, it wasn't.

Then I realized I was going to drive myself crazy trying to figure out if it was perfect. As far as mass produced consumer electronics go, it's pretty damn near as high in quality as anything I've ever bought. Especially considering the move from a 5 year old iMac.

The less I obsessed and the more I enjoyed using it, the happier I've been.

If you examine anything with a microscope you're going to find issues. Overall, the i7 is 99.9% what I expected it to be. Most of all, it's just providing a great user end experience.

hmm this advise was given to Lancia beta drivers 30 years ago too
or to YUGO GV drivers too
enjoy what you`ve bought and ignore the build quality

no its not all that bad with the apple iMac , but certain things should not happen ,even on a mass produced product
dust behind glass is a indicator of not taking care when putting things together and i would expect it
if apple would still build their computers in a garden shed , but not in a modern factory
the other things are more a issue of build quality not controlled by apple itself as even in the chinese factory every single component is produced by other company`s and only put together in the factory and gets the apple badge, so you cant blame apple for that matter

Hold on a second; Lancia made good cars, just their late ones were crap.

I've looked everywhere as well, and I still can't get confirmation of delivery of my i5. So no, can't see an problems with it. :)

Agreed. The level of whine in these forums is OCD to the max.

This is an awesome post! Thank you for sharing this with us.

I know there a few iMacs out there with real problems, but proportionally, there are tons of iMacs that are great machines. Complaints on forums tend to take on a life of their own, and before you know it, everyone thinks that it is a crap product. It really is crazy when you think about it.

It's ridiculous, it's like all the whiny OCD babies found this forum and decided to start a thousand threads about how they think they are seeing and hearing things...this used to be an INTERESTING forum...might go back to Ars or AppleInsider...too much inane bs in this forum.

I'm glad that we're starting to see some positive vibes around here. I'm looking forward to seeing more posts that lean towards how to enjoy your iMac instead of the constant whining and complaints.

    LOL!!!

I KNO!!! I am at work reading some of these forums thinking.. omg i have to get home and check my screen for yellow, listen to my hard drive to see if it's as loud as others are reporting etc..

These forums are driving me to become a tech-o-chondriac haha! When just the other day I was thinking on how much I love my new machine!!

    Isn't human nature insane?

My condolences to those who ARE having real problems though.
