I ordered. Was told it would take 4-6 weeks at point of order. It arrived after 5 weeks. My credit card was debited the day before it arrived. It works. it's beautiful. End of.

The 5 week wait was only torture because I was so excited to get the rMB (and we are used to fairly instant gratification these days).

Am not sure Apple, at least in my case, have done anything wrong. I noted an earlier point about expecting more for the amount charged but it's not as if they deceived us about delivery times or took payment before building the MacBook.

Are we expecting Apple to produce zillions of units and have them sitting ready for launch without knowing what demand would be like??

Only thing I would have preferred would have been to purchase from an Apple Store but that's rarely possible around the time a product has launched.

Disappointed to find that in Chicago they had all models except the 1.3 in stock. Not sure why they aren't filling web orders first and we still have to wait 3+ weeks

Interesting. Online it still says "ships to store." I'm not sure what happened with this launch. This is the first time that there has ever been this kind of shortage with a new Mac. I wonder if they had Qanta prioritize the Watch backlog. In retrospect they should have had Foxconn make the new MacBook. It's worth the wait, but undoubtedly they have cost themselves sales by not having the MacBook in stores from Day 1.

My story was similar to yours, but with a different ending. Prior to this, I was fairly set on a Surface Pro 3. But then the MacBook was announced and I was intrigued. This was a month before launch. So I dug in and girded myself for the wait.

April 10 - looked online when it opened. Long wait for delivery. No worries, I'm not about to drop that kind of money without trying it out, I'll head to the Apple store in the morning. Got to Apple, no MacBooks. Argh! And now the delays were even longer for shipping. Over many weeks I finally got to try it, and while I put the store models through the ringer and was confident in the CPU and display, I wasn't quite sold on the keyboard. But I figured it was partially the unnatural feel of testing it standing up on those weird height tables at the Apple Store.

April 21st I took the plunge and ordered. Estimated delivery, June 10. Argh. During this time I continued to drift back and forth to the Surface and to some other Windows PCs, as well as the rMBP. I came close to canceling several times. But I was getting a house ready to sell at the time and wouldn't have time to play with a new computer right then anyhow, so I figured why not keep waiting.

Long story short, it was delivered to the Apple Store on Monday of this week (June 1). I actually delayed in picking it up, almost as though the long wait and anticipation were somehow fun. I'm so glad I waited.

* The Keyboard, I'm greatly relieve to say, is wonderful. Typing at my normal desk and other locations is way better than the Apple store tables, and I'm finding it to be lightning fast for typing.
* The display! When the MacBook is closed it looks like a tiny little netbook. But when it is open the display is so crisp that it gives the illusion of being a full sized laptop, at least for me.
* Performance - Absolutely stellar (I have the 1.2 model). It has handled everything I've thrown at it with ease. Installing a Linux VM in VirtualBox was a tad slow, but once installed it runs just fine.

What you purchased is a great system as well, but for me I've decided that the rMB was worth the wait and the dumb way Apple handled this launch. The rMB is a pure delight.

Well, that's good to read and will hopefully hold me for a while. I ordered May 12, earliest expected delivery at June 10, same as you. Just waiting, concerned it'll be latest delivery date, which is June 23, or the worst case, that it's pushed out for some reason. The fact that yours came early gives me some hope that I might have mine in hand a week from now.

The Apple store in my city is useless for this. I kept thinking they'd get stock, but when I asked on the weekend, they told me I'd better just wait for the one I ordered--they didn't have any word yet on when their next deliveries would be, and they were expecting August.

I just don't get how Apple could have mis-guessed the popularity of this machine so dramatically.

And by the way (addon for my previous post):

In our country price of rMB 1.3 256Gb : 2 600 United States Dollars... )))

But never the less I am not even thinking to give up! I fight for my rMB! ))
If I were you, I would ride my Siberian Bear down over the Mongolian Steppes and into the heart of China, retrieving your rMB directly from the factory, all in the name of mother Russia!

the problem is.. i used to have a 15 inch rMBP, so it's definitely an adjustment for me since i can no longer have text + video side by side.

but the way I see it. once rMB 2 comes out (ideally with more port and better launch plan), I can ditch this and upgrade.

A lot of really neat tech with Skylake should make the next version really nice.

The OP in this thread sounds a bit more like flamebait than anything else. Especially since Small Dog has a 1.3 Space Gray MacBook in stock that ships in 1 - 3 days and a host of other models available.

I bought and returned the MacBook Air due to it's poor display quality, just saying.

Well, I cancelled my order today.

It was because I went to the Apple Store in my city and lo and behold, they had stock! Here I am, my first post to Mac Rumors forum in my new MacBook! Huzzah!

I've been excited about this product since day 1... Heck, I even justified the whole lack of port thing, but at this point. I finally gave up.

Woke up at 3AM EST, pre-ordered the rMB with 512GB, and showed 3-4 weeks. No worries, I am just going to pop into the nearest Apple store in Toronto and get it there.

Got to Apple store.. **Sorry, we don't have it in stock, not even in store display for you to try it on **

How long do I have to wait? entire 4 weeks. So I opted to get a macbook air 13 refurbished model for half of the price (vs rMB + adaptors)

Sorry, just feel like ranting

i asked the people of amazon when they got their macbook and they said within the same week. I like apple but id rather go to an approved distributor and get faster service somewhere else. Not even Apple Care is worth it from all the complaints i see.

Its most likely that they are bringing products by vessels. They take 3 to 4 weeks from Asia to get here. The company i work for brings in products from polynesia and they take 3 to 4 weeks. Whereas they bring it by plane, more expensive but more happy customers.
