I got it!!!!!! (cloned system)

Well its here, I am still waiting for my SSD's and my second GT120 but its all fine I think, I have cloned my drive from my MBP.

Is there anything I have to do to any settings on the clone? difference between MBP and MP?

I have my second screen on its ergotron terminator arm.

Here is a photo as is, not plumbed in until I have finished in the case, spec as of now is, 2.66 quad, 8gb OWC RAM, 1 640GB, 2 TB caviar blacks in Raid 0, extra 1tb, in the optical bay using noiseblocker from OWC.

I would recommend a completely fresh install of everything from original discs, not a clone or migration, especially from a completely different type of Mac.

I would recommend a completely fresh install of everything from original discs, not a clone or migration, especially from a completely different type of Mac.

i can't think of a reason why you'd run into a problem with a clone. everything has worked fine for me on all of the clones i have done for myself, friends and family.

i'd think that a clone from a mbp to a mp is asking for trouble.

the hardware isn't the same, so expecting to boot a mp from what will effectively be a mbp boot disk and for the mp to operate with no issues is a bit optimistic.

if you do a migration don't you retain all of your data including keychains etc?

all of the above assuming i've understood what you're trying to do

i have no issues at all, and have had 0 issues when cloning MY personal UMB to my Mac mini. exact clone ~6-7 months ago. i think unless you have done it more than 5 times and encountered issues each time, then i might reconsider your outlook.

I migrated from my mbp to my mp, no issues, except...
VM Ware fusion seems to be having a problem finding my battery... (I wonder why?)
and a cider port of empire earth 2 I have doesn't work (this is a xeon issue)

Then this is the PERFECT time to set it up right. Take your time, do a fresh install. Drag over the files you want and set them up in the right place. Trust me - been there done that. ANY move is the best time for "spring cleaning."

Unlike windows, MacOS doesn't only install drivers for the hardware you've installed. Instead it'll install all the drivers and architectures into the system folder, regardless of your Mac being a laptop or desktop. You can use application like monolingual to remove unused architectures but some application will break. Though having said that, the MP is a different class of hardware, it's a workstation for one and has expansion ports.

What I would recommend the OP to do is do a full install then go about manually copying the system and user preferences over, along with his/her keychain.

BTW, I think it's really ODD the OP hasn't kept copies of his/her application serial numbers. I have tons and tons of software and those I've purchased online are all in my email account, while others are on various slips of paper, store in boxes (so grade they make smaller boxes those days).

I have done an audit, and searched emails, backups etc I can find 90% of my codes etc. I'm missing a few, but I can email the developer I think, my biggest worry is migrating 1password, I live and die by this app, that’s my job now to work out how to do that.

I don't think you need to worry. Some of those can be fixed but Apple is being be-autches about the whole permissions thing. After a fresh install and an update I think you'll fine about 100 of them are messed up and cannot be repaired:

What about Migration Assistant?

As far as 1Password, you can back it up to a thumb drive and then import it on the new system.

Keychain stuff will be more of a problem. Maybe a Google search would reveal something along those lines. I see someone has provided links for that.

If you use FireFox, there is a plug-in you can get that will get all of your login information saved in FF to a file that you can then import to a new instance of FF on a different system.

Unless items were forced in to different locations, everything should be in your home folder. Back that up to an External Drive to get your data.

i'd think that a clone from a mbp to a mp is asking for trouble.

the hardware isn't the same, so expecting to boot a mp from what will effectively be a mbp boot disk and for the mp to operate with no issues is a bit optimistic.

if you do a migration don't you retain all of your data including keychains etc?
