Well. I thought it was my usual password but it's not working.

Can I take it to the store or do I need to try one of the options posted on the threads when I search?

Odd, when I restarted it went straight to being logged on. If I "log off" I need the password to get back on.

No need to bring it in, unless the procedure is too complicated for you: Mac OS X: Changing or resetting an account password

And your Mac is set to automatically log in, you can disable it via System Preferences > Security.

Thank you for the automatic log in info.

I can do the procedure. I was just confused because on google searches it looked like there were several ways. I'll go with this from the Apple site.

Thanks!

I did the same and NOTHING I could do would let me in. I couldn't remember my hint......I was locked out tight and looked at having to take it back to Apple to fix it for me, although i am pretty adept with computers

Found this and it worked within seconds

Normally if a Macbook is locked up with an administrators password, usually one cant easily get in but can resort to reformatting the hard drive as long as they are using Snow Leopard and that will knock out the old passwords, allowing you to take over.

I had a macbook that was set up in such a way I could not reboot into a reformat state, I could not erase the drive and reformat....I could not do anything at all and spend 3 hours trying everything i could think of, to no avail.

Until this.

Follow this exactly and be aware of the spaces between a few letters for without putting in those spaces, this will not work but if dont properly and its easy to do, you will take control of the passwords, become the admin and delete any earlier admins on the Mac.

There is a space in the first line between the k and the -y

There is a space in the second line, between the t and the -uaw.

Those are the only two spaces needed.

Please, come on now, all you need is nothing: OK, restart your computer, hold down Command-S and type in the following:

/sbin/fsck -y [Enter]

/sbin/mount -uaw [Enter]

rm /var/db/.applesetupdone [Enter]

reboot [Enter]

Once you've done that the computer reboots and ask you to set up an admin password. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences!!

So who said you needed a CD?

I tried this about 10 times. If I pushed Ctrl C at start up tone it took me directly to a black screen with white numbers and letters. Some sort of command prompt thing?

If I clicked from Disc 1 to reinstall it kept asking me for my old password to proceed and that's what I don't have.

Hey, sent you a pm. This didn't work either. It went all the way through but didn't ask for new password and when i tried to reset it wanted my OLD one. Thanks for the suggestion though....
