The universe also wanted me to get a macbook pro. I was trying to sell my dell inspiron 700m laptop for 400$, 2 days later, my little brother stepped on it. So, I parted out what was sellable, and made about a hundred bucks so far this week. Phew!

edit: are you guys ****ing serious about him voting for obama? jesus, republicans seem like 12 year olds these days. why did you have to bring politics into this...

i saw the obama background, and new someone was going to say something.

someone should submit this to gizmodo or something!! (i would but email is blocked at work )

I'd call AppleCare and say that there was a defect and that they should replace it. :D

"I don't know what happened, I was just sitting on my couch and then all of a sudden my screen cracked and the whole thing just got bent. I've heard this happen a lot of times already on the Mac forums so it must be a defect from the factory of some sort..."

the optical drive and hd spinning created such a powerful magnet force that the unit just collapsed in on itself!!

or

my mac was so powerful, that i managed to simulate a black-hole with it. well, gravity got too much for it and it bent it all up!

Good stuff, thanks for all the comments. In response to the Republicans out there - It's funny, I was actually thinking my MacBook Pro was symbolic of the Obama campain. No matter how hard McCain (and the old cut down stump of Republicans) try to attack, Obama (and the uber-cool Apple hardware) take a licking and keep on ticking! November 5th is going to be a great day, our country will have made the right decision for once and I'll be receiving my new MacBook Pro!

I decided to go for the 2.53, 320gb @ 7200 rpm, just couldn't quite stomache the 2.8 upgrade. Thanks for the kind wishes and funny comments. And just say no to old stumps!

Come on, you know you want the 2.8 uber goodness.

Great story! Great pics! I wonder if my wife would buy a story like that from me. If I already had a last gen macbook pro, I could license your pics to tell the story to her and then sell my old MBP on ebay, buying my new gen replacement with the proceeds. Alas, I don't have an MBP so this ploy won't work for me.:D

Blame the Hadron Collider :)

I'm not surprised it still works though. Most of the bend is in the bit occupied by the optical drive. The logic board is towards the back under the keyboard and the bit where the HDD goes looks undamaged.

thanks for making it another one of those threads.

Best reply of the thread.

is it still in warranty?:p
Just image how that Apple Care call would go...

I agree, get over it, it's just a little scratch..

Second best reply of the thread.

LOL.

I would bring it into an Apple store just to see what the reaction of Apple Newbies would be.

I'm actually curious about turning it into a desktop. How would you manged to go about that? wouldn't the be so I/O port problems?

Yeah just take it in and ask them if they can fix it on the spot and for how much?

That would be a pretty cool project, especially if you can get some aluminum sheets. You can create your own style headless mac that can sit on your bookcase and run as your home sever. Just set up VNC and you are all set. :)

Better yet, find an old book that's big enough and rip out the pages and hot glue the logic board inside that and set it up. The logic board is small enough to fit inside really any book. You don't really need anything else hooked up to it.

That is almost as complex as the idea I had. Take out the screen and external casing. Move all parts into a small tower PC case. Connected each cable with an extension cable and mount those to the outside of the case, so you can plug in ports from the outside.

You could also get a USB DVD and an "external" HD and mount those on the inside of the case.

"'tis but a scratch!"

sorry! couldn't resist :$

Unlucky! I'd be extremely upset and angry if that happened to my mac! Hope you got a new mac and are enjoying it ?

May i ask what became of the tree ?
chop it up! burn it!

how dare it !

He should build a case for the components of that Mac out of that tree.

Wow, I'm amazed it works! So much stronger than the plastic macbooks.
I think you should turn it into a desktop, or just as a desktop replacement, have it permanently sitting on the desk etc.
Well good luck with it, and enjoy your new laptop!
