Bennigans. Now long gone, but I used to try to order their nachos without peppers. After getting a little testy over them arriving with peppers AGAIN, I asked the bedraggled server why they came with peppers AGAIN, and she said they come in a package from corporate with the peppers already in the sauce for them. To get them without peppers would mean someone in the back picking the peppers out by hand. Um, really? Wow. That sucks.

And Bennigans is gone. Went out pre-pandemic too...

Loved their breadsticks, and they came 'pre-buttered' too. *sigh*

When I was really little, I used to love to eat at Bennigan's. I called it "the green restaurant" 😂

Forgot about Bennigans :( PJ Whelihans is where they used to be.

Well, back to the original topic of the thread, I have some good news for bacon and cheese lovers. The bacon and cheese rationing is not intentional:

I, for one, would like to know how much Engineering will be involved in adding Bacon and Cheese options. I also wonder if they will be known as the Bacon Engineering Team and Cheese Engineering Team, or whether there will be a combined Bacon & Cheese Engineering Team, or perhaps the Extras Engineering Team. Personally, I think it would be awesome to be able to put "Bacon Engineering Team Leader" on your résumé.

HELL YES!! :D:D:D:D

I live in Ecuador. The BK burgers here are consistently the most horrible burgers available. Thin, and cooked until they are hard. No sign of juice from the burger. I tried 3 different locations.

Not where I live. Plenty of juiciness and they have a flame-broiled taste that I like. Sorry about that!

The only places that have good fries anymore are Arby's and KFC. Ironically, neither is a burger place. Plus CFA, if you count waffle fries. It isn't a burger place either.

The fries at Wendy's and McDonalds are absolutely inedible. No flavor at all, like eating sticks of cardboard. I have to assume BK's fries suck, like everything else on its menu.

They need to go back to the greasy, unhealthy fries. All this effort to increase the healthiness of fast food has ruined the fries.

Here is something fun....a 30+ year-old Bennigan's. menu I have...

The last McDonald's fried I had were greasy and overly salted, and cold. Some were rather rubbery. The flavor was grease and stale potato. The consistency was something like I would imagine deep fried cardboard being like.

But fries are bad for you (me), so I am pretty much off the old pre-pandemic ritual of getting a medium fry after riding my MTB in the fall. The salt content is so uneven (as would be expected since it's applied by hand). Some times they are inedible, and other times they are extremely lightly salted, almost perfectly so.

The very best fries I can remember, as a kid, was from a Mars Restaurant. They were the longest fries I'd ever seen, and were perfectly seasoned. I have found some amazing fries around the world. There is a restaurant in St Lucia that has some of the most incredible fries that I have ever tasted. Thin, crispy, not just salted, just amazing. I've found similar at some small chain and locally owned restaurants, but not at any 'fast food' joints, which I'm glad for. (But for the worst fries, I'd like to nominate Culver's! BLEEECH)

Fast food fries today are like eating dried up cardboard or leather shoe laces. Just not edible.

I WISH I could find greasy ones.

Where on earth are you going to get such horrible fries? I've had fries from McDonald's, Arby's, Hardees, Jack in the Box, Wendy's, Burger King, Sonic, Chick-fil-A etc. and not once have they been anywhere near that description.

See my previous post.

I don't count CFA's offering as "fries" (not the same class of food as regular fries, they're WAFFLE fries. Different thing). I excluded Arby's and KFC from those who have crap fries.

We don't have Hardee's, Sonic, or Jack in the Box anywhere I go. I can't comment first hand. But if they're producing what their competitors produce, they're gonna suck too.

Roy Rogers has edible fries, but good luck finding one anymore. They're rare.

McDonald's fries suck. Only reason to go to McD is if you have to eat and there is absolutely nothing else around.

Wendy's is the worst of the bunch, except for maybe Burger King. I won't even get the fries at McD or Wendy's, they're so bad. I won't go to BK for any reason.

I used to go to Wendy's at least once per week. Then they changed their fries from the crappy but edible "natural cut, sea salt" fries into what they have now - completely inedible trash that is designed to be "crisp" when delivered. Now I avoid Wendy's. I usually go to the Arby's next door, only because they have decent tasting crinkle cut fries. In short, their change in fries have moved Wendy's to my "no go" list, along with BK, Five Guys, Denny's and Primanti Brothers.

I am left with CFA, Popeyes, KFC, Subway and Arby's as my preferred fast food places. It kinda sucks that no burger place can manage to get themselves on that list, either because they suck in general, or because their fries are inedible.

It all depends on the age of the fry post cooking. I've had fresh scalding McDonald's fries and they have been rather good. But most of the time I seem to end up with fries that are 'long in the tooth'. McDonald's used to time the fries in the bin, and toss them if they weren't sold within a certain time. Some that I have gotten seem to be DAYS old, not just minutes. The heat lamp just makes them nasty over time. (But I think the greasiest I have had are the Arby's 'curly fries'. That coating soaks up the grease pretty well, and when they get cold, well, *TOSS* The BK I worked at served fries no matter how old they were. Gross But they wouldn't throw out anything, including freezer burned patties)

Actually BK and Wendy's are the two places I normally get fries these days, and both are great--nothing like you describe. So either you're extremely unlucky with the locations you've gone to or I'm extremely lucky with the ones I go to 🤷🏼‍♂️

IMO every fry that is 'coated to make them crispy' ends up being noxious as they cool off. There is just something that is so nasty, to me, about cold fries. I'll eat *some* pizza cold, but fries? It's hard to find a fry that is edible cold.

Or we have different concepts of edible.

My first cruise was on The Big Red Boat, to the Bahamas. During hurricane season. And getting what felt like way to close to an active hurricane. That first night was Italian Night, and you could see and smell it everywhere. (It included a trip to Disney World, which I am forever grateful happened before the cruise to oblivion)

We land on the island, and it's kind of wrecked. The only food place available was a bedraggled Burger King. I hadn't eaten in more than 24 hours, and that restaurant looked like heaven. I even ate all the onion rings (that was all they had, no fries).

Desperation?

All excursions were cancelled except for the 'Town Walk', which was surreal... The BK closed early, they ran out of things to feed people. What a first cruising experience. But Burger King can look like heaven, if you are hungry enough.

I have gone as long as three days (in Egypt) without eating because I couldn't find something I was willing to eat...

I once watched everyone else in my party at the Mexican restaurant (in Mexico) eat and went hungry, because I wanted tacos and they didn't serve tacos....

Nah, I know what stale fries taste like, and these ain't it. Not even close. I'm not claiming they're always like they're straight out of the frier, but they're always much closer to that then the opposite.
