In summer I have a 50mm x 50mm x 10mm USB ( powered from external 7 port USB HUB).

My Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500gb currently ( Japanese winter) runs at around 37°C.

The above fan keeps the summer temp to around the same

This pic was taken prior to my monthly de-dusting ).

This is the OWLTECH OWL-PCEXM2-03 M.2 card - it now has the 970 EVO Plus installed + one copper heatsink. Excellent workmanship ! The 970 EVO Plus gets consistent 1,492mb/s write.

I had a spare cMP 2,1 side cover which fits my 4,1>5,1 - doesn't lock but doesn't fall off

Connected the drive activity LED to the side cover. Very informative.

EDIT 2
: Actually, there IS a copper heatsink over the Samsung logo, it's just not visible in the photo due
to the angle of the shot, I forgot that I had done that.

EDIT 1 : It doesn't get hot enough in Autumn & Winter and in summer the USB fan keeps it quite cool,
well withing operating specs. But you are correct about heatsink optimum placement.😇

NOTE : The 500gb 970 EVO Plus runs about 5°C hotter then the 970 EVO 256gb so I have three heatsinks
( 2 copper & 1 alum ) now on the 970 EVO PLUS & also a 16.14 CFM USB powered fan for in
readiness for summer Japan 2020.
