People ragging on iTunes really need to try some of the alternatives. The various competitors to iTunes on other platforms are so horrible you'll come running crying home to iTunes and will hug it and never abandon it again.

is the new itunes really that bad? never tried it. the newest version i use is itunes 9 and i don't have any problems with it. i rip all my songs from cd's and manually add my artwork. never messed with coverflow and i use the browser like the older days.

I've never been that unhappy with iTunes. My library as a whole is about 150GB and it works well enough. For me that is.

I find it alright, and a bit less cluttered. There was a bit of a "getting used to it" curve, but now I use it like a champ and it's plenty fast.

I'll admit that iTunes in its present incarnation is rather a mediocre experience as far as being a media file center. I think earlier version had a better look and feel but to each their own.

For me, the only features that makes iTunes a nice app is the ease of making playlists and of course synching with iPaid2much devices.

Tried Windows Media Player recently? It is actually really nice, works brilliantly. Media Monkey is another simple app and even has iOS/iPod syncing abilities. Foobar2000, despite being a little complex, is undoubtedly snappy and is super customisable to the user's needs.

There is no shortage of decent alternatives. At least not for Windows anyway. OS X is a different matter.

0/10. You obviously haven't used it. Nice try.

LOL. The only multimedia software Microsoft has ever made that is worth using is Windows Media Center for DVR and in particular CableCard, and that's because it's the only game in town for CableCard. And it's only usable for DVR purposes. There are far better alternatives for music, other video, and pictures, iTunes being far better than any Microsoft software for library-based music, XBMC (now Kodi) for library-based video, with foobar2000 and PotPlayer for files I double-click in Explorer, and Picasa and FastStone for pictures.

Clearly never run iTunes on Windows either. Whatever. I really don't care enough to bite but it is very clear you have no idea what you're talking about.

Lol. Just lol. My reply to you was borne out of long experience.

My only issue with iTunes is how long it seems to take when you change anything in 'get info'. From Home video to movie type changes seem to really trouble it. Surely it is simply editing a file somewhere with text, so why the long time?

Other than that, I have tried others, but itunes is by far the simplest to use.

Hate iTunes?

Where do I start...

Losing settings to connect to NAS drive meaning I have to reset and re-import my library. Was bad enough with iTunes 11 at once a week, now with iTunes 12 it's every other time I start iTunes. Was fine with iTunes 9!

New inconsistent interface, more frustrating than intuitive

How bloated is this thing now? It'll be as big as the OS in terms of disk space used soon

Media management, iTunes was pretty good with this as the interface was consistent but not any more...

I could go on...

I rarely fire up iTunes 12 now, I have a machine with iTunes 9 on it for accessing and playing media as it never loses connection to the NAS. My iMac with Yoshemite on it is only used for moving stuff to and from mine and my wife's iPhones, which we try to keep to a minimum as it's more hassle than it's worth these days.

iTunes is flawless for me. All my Music, Movies and TV Shows work and display perfectly.

I really don't understand all the hate it gets. (actually, i can if you're using windows. but thats your own fault)

Reeeally?

~300MB isn't even remotely as big as an OS, hell, even ChromeOS is ~4GB, and that's allegedly the leanest OS on the market.

You want to talk about a bloated app, Adobe's Photoshop CC 2014, 2 friggen gigs of bloat.

That aside, I'm kinda ambivalent to iTunes. It does what I need, I've never had issues with it (have a media collection of ~100GB connected via a NAS), in Yosemite or Win8 (across 3 Macs).

Put a clean install of OS X Tiger on it and made sure to keep iTunes 6 on it. So clean, so simple, so fast! Sure, I only have a tiny subset of my music on it, but the interface is so refreshing. It manages music, and the whole app is about 39 MB!

That version can't even display cover art yet, except for the currently playing (or selected) track, can it?

I have and I think it is utter garbage.

Neither do I and I'm using itunes 12 on a four year old Windows 7 laptop. Works fine for me. Prefer it to 11 in fact, nice simple stripped down design. The only problem I have with itunes is the video playback is choppy and sometimes freezes.

My exact feelings.
