I'm sure it's too much to hope for, but is there an app or hidden feature in iTunes that makes arranging your icons less frustrating and stressful? I added a couple of widgets and of course all my icons got strewn all over the place.

I know you know the frustration, but aside from hiding everything and giving it up to the App Library, has anyone figured out a way to make them heed your will?

Thanks

This is a classic “first world problem.” Where see you arranging your apps? Directly on the phone or through iTunes? I haven’t used this in years, so no idea if it works still, but you could use iTunes to organize the iPhone pages. Give that a try.

iTunes dropped the feature it used to have for arranging screens. There is a way to reset the icons in settings back to factory layout. Settings | General | Reset | Reset Home Screen Layout.
Thanks--I used iTunes way back when and it worked great. Apple is so frustrating at times...

you are aware if you hold an icon and tap others with other hand it picks up multiple icons for moving, not sure if you know or not but makes it very easy
No I didn't know that, I'll give that a try later. I'm actually close to trying the App Library--hide all the icons except for the apps I use on a daily basis.

I kind of hate that idea but it may be less frustrating in the long run.

Tbh ive found im using spotlight to launch most my apps - seems quicker just pulling screen down (or back tapping) and searching jest few letters and hitting “go” most the time it predicts the app I want :)

Found 'jiggly mode' much more likely activated in iOS 14 than previously. Linger your finger on a screen but for a moment and it all kicks in.

I absolutely loved the option of arranging icons in iTunes. I really wish they would bring that feature back. I'm constantly making folders by accident because apps want to sit on top of each other, etc. when I'm trying to move them around.

This is one thing I truly miss about Android. Customized screens. I moved to iOS about 3 years ago for various reasons and mostly I’m very grateful I did especially when updates arrive. If you’ve ever used android you know how painfully slow updates can be to arrive.
As I said. customized screens were fantastic with Android. I used an app called Nova Launcher. It gave you an infinite number of ways to setup your screens. No jiggly apps that seem to be magnetucally attratcted to each other. You can place app icons ANYWHERE on a screen (Along the outer border, one row on top one on the bottom, down just the sides of the screen etc...) not just where Apple wants you to put them. Live wallpaper was another great feature. I had a freaking Coy Pond for a home screen with fish swimming in my phone. I could create a photo collage for a screen wallpaper with the photos I wanted not what someone else randomly selected. You could place individual documents, PPT, PDF, WORD, EXCEL, Websites, Books, Photos on a home screen which meant you didn’t need to open a file to get to those documents. Very handy for business if you accessed certain documents daily.
Sorry I got a bit off track but the OP question reminded me of the customization I miss about Android. Moving icons around the screens in Android wasn’t always smooth sailing either but at least they didn’t do this childish jiggling stuff. 😫😫

Someone in this forum has mentioned that if you want to build a new stack, built it in the today view and then push it to your homescreen.

This isnt woking for me? I'm still on 13, is this a 14 thing?
I think it was an 11 or 12 thing, it’s been there a while. It takes some getting used to though. Grab an icon, start moving it (so it knows you’re grabbing it), then tap other icons to add them to the “pile” you’re moving.

edit: changed “stack” to “pile” since stack is now the official term for widgets that are on top of each other.

edit again: was iOS 11: https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/drag-drop-ipad-iphone-ios-11/ (also awwww that Neko Atsume throwback in the screenshot in that guide)

oh that did it!

i was trying to drag them along. your description "tap" did the trick, thank you!!

If they make jiggly mode just move specific apps not force apps to shift around and I mean all the apps. Imagine just moving one app without affecting the apps around it; but apple sure doesnt want to copy the most basic of android, windows and macos

Glad it worked! Pro-ish tip: while you’re dragging, you can also use a second finger to swipe to a different Home Screen or open a folder, rather than having to drag and hold to the edge, or over the folder.

You are an iOS GUI god.
