Well, just to be technical, many USB devices suck when using USB 1.1 to connect. For instance my printer, it's jut a regular HP all-in-one and it takes about three or four minutes for a job to be started when I click print. Scanning anything takes far too long. Digital cameras also are a pain in the ass when using USB 1.1, if you have anything more than thirty pictures you can expect to wait a while. And many of the USB optical drives can only run at a tenth of the speed while connected through USB 1.1 (true that there are firewire optical drives but those are more expensive).

Like I said it's not that I don't like my computer or neccessarily need those extra goodies/better specs that Dell offers. But it just pains me to know that there is something much better (spec wise) for the same price as my new computer? Nobody has experienced this kind of frustration before?

so sell your mac...stop buying macs...and shut the **** up. we are tired of reading it. go to the pc world and leave us alone. you are not a unique snowflake, you are all part of the same compost heap.

now sparkley, there's no need to be a prick of a different compost heap i could mention... and being sexy is no excuse :p

god damnit your making all the assumptions, you haven't even tried one of those dells before, and its too late now.

Ya know what mcasaraz or whatever your name is, go buy the dell. You will be crying to return it and go mac again. The first time you spend all day and night reinstalling windows, finding drivers for your peripherals, downloading all your freewares, your browsers, the first time your disc is unreadable, the first time you have to install a driver and it says 'cannot find .inf file: you will come crawling back to the Apple community, and we will laugh at you. Like someone has already said, if you cannot realize how much better the iBook is, beyond the specs, then you deserve the pc laptop and the havoc contained therein.

i was not trying to be a jerk. but its true, that the first time you have to reinstall on a brand new computer, well its very enlightening.

Sexy board member? Oh my! I'm intrigued -- where are pictures? ;)

On topic -- I'll say nearly the same thing I said in another nearly identical thread: I'd have to beat the living hell out of myself if I ever owned a computer as ugly as that Dell, or used an OS as poorly designed and ugly as XP :p

Pal, your problem may not be computer-related, after all.

You should never hate yourself. At all.

Cheer up. Go, get an x-Box. They're cheap. Put on a good record.

Personally the stablity of OSX, DVD-R, and no network hassles made me sure that the Mac was the better choice. Plus I don't have any USB2.0 products. If I need one OrangeMicro makes a USB2.0 cardbus card for Macs. Plus I love the Mac's 6-pin FW port. Trust me, if you do lots of Firewire work, you'd appreciate a good 6-pin.

does that alienware come with a table to put it on? because one that thing is a ****ing anvil weight-wise, and plus a 3.06ghz desktop processor will be able to brown some chicken :)

that's true. but really, how long are you waiting for a USB printer? if you print enough to be bothered by that, you need a damned good printer, which, on the high end, there are firewire printers, methinks.

as for cameras, you got me. though it's really not that painful in my experience. like a minute or so tops. i would much sooner spend the money to get a PCMCIA USB 2 card than bitch--oh wait, you don't have PCMCIA :p

Man, you guys are being pretty mean in this thread.

There are no Firewire printers, and really there is no need for a USB 2.0 printer either... USB 1.1 has enough bandwidth for almost any print job.

But most digital cameras that are coming out and will be out are USB 2.0... I think a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card would look super sexy sticking out of a new AlBook instead of Apple just upgrading the port so someone can use a new digital camera. For $3K they better use USB 2.0.

that's the joke, man. only powerbooks have a PCMCIA slot to stick one in. iBooks have no such option.

Oh my goodness, I hate myself... Instead of dropping $2,000 on PB 12", 10 GB iPod and AE card, I could have gotten myself a 32" flat panel TV, PS2, Sony floor speakers, matching center and surround channel speakers, a powered subwoofer and some PS2 games...

Go buy whatever the HARDWARE you want. Dell's not gonna run OS X. Are you just so blinded by the hardware specs that you ignore probably the more important part: SOFTWARE?? (Incl. OS.)

I love my Ti gigabook. For the weight and form factor, you just can't beat it IMHO. Any PC laptop that could equal it weighs almost 10 pounds with power adapter! It really is a desktop replacement. Plus, when I put it in my backpack I hardly notice its there. Go enjoy your dell, you'll save having to go to the gym to work out!

Not to mention the battery life, if any, is likely to be measurable with an egg timer.

I just want to ask the one question that hasn't been asked yet:

Why did you buy the iBook in the first place?

And if this has been asked before, my mistake. ;)

He prolly bought it because at that point he was not impressed by a bit better specs, and had the common sense that Apple offers a better package overall.
