My old xr was beaten and i know iphones are more and more scratchable on every new model. I remember first iphones were more hard to scratch.
After reading topics about it. I tried to put an esr on my new 12 but there is always a lent somewhere or a corner that is not well stucked.
Going back to my old friend applecare that never let me down.

I had two experiences which ensured I'll never use them again:

1. My first iPhone (well, first smartphone!) was a 3GS, and it was handed to me by my boss and it had a screen protector on it, the plastic kind. Bubbles everywhere. It drove me batty to the point I managed to remove the OtterBox case (which has its own screen protector anyway) and peeled off that nasty monstrosity (which not only had bubbles, but trapped dust, hair, etc in it). Phone felt and looked brand new after that

2. One of my adventures trying a modern phone, in 2017, I got a Galaxy S8. Being all glass I thought a screen protector was a great idea, as it's cheaper replacing the protector than the screen, and they made them in glass and not that ugly bubbly plastic. It was a tempered glass protector. The issue is, anything striking it (in my case, the S8 was taller than my pockets, and the top 1/4 stuck out, so when getting under vehicles I'd work on, the phone tended to slide out and hit the floor) makes it shatter in parts (such as a corner or top left, or bottom right) and it's teeny little glass shards. I thought 'hey, I'd just peel it off, right? replace it?' well, those shards imbedded in my fingers and boy howdy does that freaking hurt!!!

The last experience was what ruined tempered glass protectors. I shudder just thinking about it.

I never really drop my phones, and I've never busted the screen in anything other than my Note 10.1 2014 edition and that was a stupid mistake (balancing it on top of a load of dirty laundry while it was playing YouTube, trying to multitask, it fell butter side down on a tile floor.) Also, since most of my phones today are quite old, the most that will happen is either the battery popping out, or me having to replace a $69 Galaxy SIII.

I have never put a screen protector on any of my iPhones (started with 3GS), and never had a scratch. I also had never gotten AC+ but when I shelled out 1150 for my 11ProMax, I did get AC+ ...

The most damage I have done is wiping the oleophobic coating off a display because I can't stand fingerprints so I'm always cleaning the display, so there's permenant marks or circles in the display if seen in the sunlight or under fluorescent lighting at work when looking at certain angles.

I can't stand the idea of looking at a spidered screen though, I see tons of folks doing that in the wild, screen protector or not (90% the time it's a busted screen protector)

SCREEN PROTECTOR and OTTERBOX the greatest thing you can do to protect your great little iphone. I have one on the iphone 6 and will be putting one on my 8 when it comes.

liked the idea of them, never found one i actually enjoyed past day 2.
2014 was the last year a screen protector company got money from me.

Exactly, like the idea, like the videos and tutorials but .... naaaaa i think i kinda suck at it

The main reason I use screen protectors is that I hate when the oleophobic coating wears off and that smoothness is gone. I tend to clean my phone quite a bit and I know that wears down the coating quicker. Secondly, I’ve never had a device where I didn’t get scratches on my screen. The last 2 phones, I have been able to get protectors on them before the scratches. So with these 2 things in mind, I can easily change the protector every few months and have a beautiful, smooth and smudge less protector again.

I’ve become really good at installing them and do it for the entire family.

Just for an alternative perspective, a decent screen protector with a bevelled edge, carefully applied without bubbles and dust (I’ve got good at it), on a flat screen (like the 12) is better to me than having to deal with the micro scratches that inevitably appear after a few weeks.

I have a screen protector on my ipad pro too, without a single bubble or speck of dust. Trick is to run a hot shower and fill the room with steam, then put it on. Keeps the dust out of the air.

Any tips ? My main problem is tiny lents under the screen protector and the corners especially the areas in contact with your fingers when you install it

First, run hot shower water in the bathroom for a few minutes with the door closed to steam it up. The steam helps to make the dust go down and stop floating.

Then bring in the naked phone with the screen protector, tray, invisible glass cleaner, paper towel, scotch tape and a lint roller.

Next spray the screen with the glass cleaner and wipe it dry.

Go over the glass with the lint roller or some tape to get every speck of dust off the phone.

Put the guide tray on the phone and double check for dust. Remove dust with tape again if necessary.

Hold the protector sticky side down and peel off the coating - holding it only by the sides. Don’t let fingers touch the underneath of the protector.

Use the guide tray to place the protector on the phone. Remove after install.

You shouldn’t have any dust but if you do, lift the closest corner with your fingernail and use a piece of scotch tape to touch the dust, catch and remove it.

Last, push any bubbles to the edges and out.

I know this sounds like a lot of work and pain in the neck but the key is not to have any dust in the first place. Steamy bathroom really helps.

You’ll probably laugh but I’m the screen protector installer for our entire family. My son-in-law works as a tech for the tolling stations in our state. When the booths got new monitors last year, he brought them all to me to install the screen protectors. LOL.

Good luck. Just have a steamy bathroom and patience. 😁

I don’t like them. They always gather dust around the edges and it looks bad. I just take care of my phone screen. I don’t put my phone in the same pocket as my keys or wallet. I don’t let it rub against anything.

I use the same steamy bathroom 'technique' it works great 😆. One important note, if you have A/C or any fan blowing, it might re-introduce lint, so try to turn those off while you do the installation.

I use the type of screen protectors that are edge-to-edge, and they include black framing as well, which makes it seems as if you have no screen protector on. I've used this type of protector for my iPhone 8, 11 and now 12, and they work great.

I do not like screen protectors or cases really but cases are more of a necessary evil except during this time of the pandemic. Hardly go anywhere except to drive the car around the block and come back.

With today's modern phones being glass on both front and the back, why aren't there any rear protectors outside a case? You know, that preserves the beauty? The times I've seen hashed up backs on phones....gosh.

If we need plastic cases to protect phones, what's the point of phones being made of glass/metal? Why not just go back to a polycarbonate back? Everytime I see an Otterbox Defender protecting a phone from first glance, I think it's someone keeping an old 2010 phone (kinda like me haha) because it makes it as thick and plasticy as an O.G. Droid.

I still have to go to work, but lately it's been Amazon getting a good portion of my shopping.

What brand is this?
Manto, here's the link on Amazon. One note regarding this, it comes with an 'Easy Installation Frame" I found this very tight and didn't fully use it out of fear that it might scratch the iphone's frame, so I did the installation manually without this guide.

Blue painter tape on the sides will prevent possible damage.

i don’t know either. There are some but not many. I have a basic one from Amazon on my 12 but it doesn’t go edge to edge. QULLO have one that should be edge to edge but i can’t find it in the uk. So I’m going to try a skin like slick wraps but just in the back

exactly. Screen protectors are the biggest scam around. They are absolutely worthless. Had almost every top iphone since the 3g and NEVER used a screen protector and never had a scratch. In fact, when i go to sell my old phones on craigslist, people usually comment on how my phones look brand new. I keep my phone in the same pocket as my keys all the time. I smack it against things on accident constantly. Zero scratches. I have a 12 pro now and no protector. They actually make the phone worse to use. Stop wasting your money on these worthless “protectors”. They may make you feel all warm and fuzzy, but they dont do ****

What about a case?
