exactly. Screen protectors are the biggest scam around. They are absolutely worthless. Had almost every top iphone since the 3g and NEVER used a screen protector and never had a scratch. In fact, when i go to sell my old phones on craigslist, people usually comment on how my phones look brand new. I keep my phone in the same pocket as my keys all the time. I smack it against things on accident constantly. Zero scratches. I have a 12 pro now and no protector. They actually make the phone worse to use. Stop wasting your money on these worthless “protectors”. They may make you feel all warm and fuzzy, but they dont do ****
Please stop this bs. Screen protectors have said a lot of phones from having their actual display scratched/shattered (including mine). It's your problem if you use a ****** brand. Mine is unnoticeable and doesn't disrupt my use in any way.

The same way, some people get their phones scratched just from looking at them. You don't speak for every person.

Any tips ? My main problem is tiny lents under the screen protector and the corners especially the areas in contact with your fingers when you install it

Purchase a screen protector that comes with an installation jig/frame/alignment tool. Properly and completely clean the screen and then only handle the phone by the edges(do NOT touch the screen whatsoever) and immediately install the screen protector without touching the screen or adhesive side of the screen protector.

I started using a cheap screen protector from Amazon after my X's glass started getting scratched due to it hitting my keys in the same pocket on my walk to work.

I get a 3 pack for $8, they last about 6 months each. I need a new screen protector, this one is starting to lose its sticky, but I'll wait it out until I can get a 12 mini. Just a few more days.

What about a case?
Yea i use the apple silicone ones or smart battery case each time. Front fully exposed. Never a single scratch no matter what. I even take my phone on light hikes without any extra protection. (More serious hikes i do bring a totally different cheap phone just in case i drop it/lose it) Scratch-free. Screen protectors are a total scam. If you do something to actually break/crack your phone, that thin piece of plastic/glass isn’t going to help you one bit. I have even taken my keys and purposefully ran them across the bare screen over and over again to show people how they are wasting their money. Most don’t ever listen, however.

Stop buying screen protectors. They don’t do ANYTHING. Trust me, your phone will be just fine

And I must have the worst luck as each time that I used my phones before getting a screen protector on them, I always got a scratch or two - always. I am very careful with my devices and don’t throw them in with keys or anything that could scratch them. The only thing, I could think of is that the screen got scratched from talking on the phone with earrings on.

Ok. Maybe diamonds can scratch your phone. And not even sure if a 99 cent screen protector is going to help you in that situation anyway. But for 99.999% of cases, just not gonna happen. Like i said ive intentionally tried to scratch my phone with things like keys, a knife, small rock, etc. and absolutely no scratches whatsoever. Still stand by my screen protectors are unnecessary.

I'm extremely careful and yet I still get maybe hairline scratch or something subtle, but it's there. I'm currently using a very thin case, so the screen protector adds some impact protection as well, ie it'll crack first before the screen.

The thing is if you are paying $1000 for a device, and you get a scratch, for some it may not bother them, for others it does, it depends how you feel the damage on your hefty 'investment'.

Diamond earrings will ABSOLUTELY scratch your screen. So will many other gemstones.

Metal keys will PROBABLY not scratch your screen. But harder metals—like chrome and titanium—definitely can. Your gold ring will not, but your watch might.

Sand will probably scratch your screen. Many types of dirt contain tiny particles of granite, sand, etc. You probably have dirt or sand in your pockets, on the surface where you set your phone down, and under your fingernails.

None of these things will be likely to penetrate all the way through a screen protector. Most scratches are extremely shallow. Obviously with enough time/pressure the object can dig all the way through the screen protector to the glass beneath, but it’s unlikely to happen casually.

I also hate screen protectors, but they will definitely protect against scratches. It is an open question as to whether they actually protect against shattering—I’m not aware of any experiments or data. But Moh’s scale is real, and smartphone screens are actually relatively soft.

I don’t use ‘em—I’d rather have the Apple experience degrade over time than immediately change it for the worse. Your opinion may differ—but know the facts.

diamonds yes. Anything else you listed do not. I live in reno (desert) and work in lake tahoe (beach) All my phone sees is dirt rocks and sand. Every single day. Doesnt scratch. Not even the slightest. You’re wasting your money if you buy a screen protector, sorry. Except, if you are holding them up to diamond earrings.

i've had micro scratches on both my iPhone 7 and X after a few days / 2 weeks max, even though i've been extremely careful. So i can't believe people are getting zero scratches after not putting any protection on the device, especially when they claim to put their keys in the same pocket.

unless not every device is made the same. or some people just don't notice the micro scratches.

But since i rarely notice the micro scratches myself without looking for them, they bother me less than any screen protector or case does.

I get zero scratches, zero cracks. But I don’t put anything else in my pocket and I do use a case. I used to use screen protectors, but stopped quite a while ago. I’m always shocked when I see scratched or cracked screens. I always wonder what people do with their phones 😂 Seriously. I don’t know. I was raised to take care of my things and treat them with care.

I think this discussion is more about the definition of scratches. People who say they put keys and other stuff with their iPhone in the same pocket and bang it around will definitely have scratches on the screen, but to them it's not visible enough to be defined as a scratch. Any iPhone that doesn't have a screen protector will have lots of micro scratches on the screen after a year of use. If you hold your phone at a certain angle in the light you will see dozens of those scratches. If you don't see them, it's probably due to your eyes not the scratches not being there :D

I don't have a screen protector or a case, and I never will. I'm really careful with my devices and never drop them, but micro scratches are definitely there and are inevitable. But as long as you can't see them while using your device and only show at a certain angle in certain light, I really don't care.

Thanks! I couldn't have put it better... I think discussion can be closed now... 😅
