Since iPhone 6, I have despised the crunchy feel of the home button. I hope the 7 gets rid of it. Is there a fix for it (without opening the phone)? Wd40 maybe?

I noticed the "crunchy" home button on the iPhone 5S when it first released in 2013. The 6 seems a lot softer in comparison.

I wonder how consistent Home Button feedback is between parts from different suppliers.

The best way to sort out the home button problem is to first turn your phone off and preferably have it in a case. Then get a damp cloth and rub it over the home button rather vigorously in every direction and then around the edge of the button(inside edge) again fairly vigorously. Then turn the phone over and tap it quite hard on its face(hence the reason why a case is best) about 5-10 times. Then turn it back over and dry the phone thoroughly. This should sort it out.

When I did my 6 it completely sorted the problem out. I also did it with my 6s as soon as I got it and my Air 2. When I did mine I put the phone in an apple leather case and when I was tapping it I did it on my Air 2 Smart Cover.

Last time I had a crunchy home button was on an iPhone 5, and it was repaired under warranty because of that. If yours is crunchy, I'd consider taking it in to get fixed.

Every time I think I've read it all, I am proven wrong. Crunchy home button?

Did it come that way, or did that develope over time?

And if washing it out cures it, my mind is going wild thinking about what substance got in between the sides of the switch.

Don't use WD40, it will leave a trace of grease. Instead, use a 95% alcohol solution to clean the button. The alcohol will vaporate.

All of them seem to have a clicking sound to him but what I normally do to avoid that is push the home button on the edge and you don't hear it anymore

I am not sure if what I have going on is the same, or different than what the OP describes as crunchy. When I press on my home button, two separate clicks happen instead of one. I can take my finger nail and tap the home button to make it click, without any screen response. Pressing harder than a tap causes the second (normal) click that activates the screen response. This is the 3rd phone since TouchID I have had this happen on. Apple will replace.

Get an alcohol wipe and wipe around the home button. That will fix it, its usually debris that cause this.

From your description, I can't help imagining something like this:

When I pushed my home button to test this out, I inadvertently close the app and thread. Hahaha, you got me good!

Yep, its gunk from your fingers getting into the Button. Rub a drop or 2 of pure alcohol (ethanol) into it and this will clear it.

My 6s started that way and has "loosened up" (in a good way) over time. I know what you're referring to and it was very annoying.
