I know I am in the minority here, but I absolutely HATE the MacBook Pro keyboard. The "illuminated" keyboard is utterly useless to me. Case in point: Whenever I turn the brightness on my display up to a comfortable level, I can't see any of the keys because of the glare from the display. I know this isn't a big deal for those who know how to type, but it drives me crazy!

I just found where you can disable the illumination and now I can see the keys much better...... :D

Either that, or use Lab Tick to turn up the brightness to maximum. Still bad but viewable in most situations. Really, a hopeless idea. White keys with black text, or black keys with white text works so much better - but that wasn't stylish enough of course, function be damned.

I'm sure you'll love the keyboard even more when it starts squeaking.

Actually I love the keyboards that come on the Macbook Pros.. who needs to read what's on them anyway?

The keyboard is so nicely sized that I could touch type on them the day I first got it. Instant conversion from a desktop sized keyboard :D

I can type just fine but I love when I am in complete darkness and need to get my positioning right and stuff, or use the function keys, the illumination is great.

I know - my space bar is squeaking and it's pissing me off. I find the keyboard to be the most lacking aspect of my 3-week old 17" MBP C2D.

Yup, my one-month-old c2d 15" has also developed the squeaking keyboard. It is annoying beyond belief. Is there any sort of easy fix for this?

I'm switching from a MB to a MBP, and I expected the MBP keyboard to be much worse than the excellent MB keyboard. But I'm actually surprised by its quality and like it as much as the MB now.

When I got mine, the space bar squeaked but stopped a while later. I am not sure how much later, but there is hope.

Take the spacebar off, clean a little, then put it back on.

That's what a genius did and it fixed mine. Be warned: it took the Genius 20 minutes to put it back on in front of me. I've read that Apple "fixes" this in their stores and its like a 10-20 minute job. They're probably doing what they did to mine except they dont want you to see them struggle with the spacebar...so they do it in the back room. I'm typing now and I have no squeaks!

You just need to reseat the Spacebar and the silicone spring underneath. GL!

One of the reasons I exchanged my computer is because the genius at the store near me took off a key to try to reseat it and the result of his effort was a key that stuck up at least a millimeter above the other keys. I was convinced he did permanent damage to the keyboard logic - maybe not, but I wasn't willing to take the chance.

I guess I'll check around online and see if anyone has posted images about how to do this with decent results.

I like the mbp keyboard quite a lot... that and the GPU are the two things I find most appealing (as compared to my macbook)!

YES! I totally agree. I have been using this keyboard for the last year and I hate it too!
It's like I screw up every word I type. The keys are supper shallow & I'm thinking about the new MacBook Pro. They say that keyboard has a little more travel to it.
You may not have noticed but this thread is from 2006. :)

Oh look a thread from nearly a decade ago. And wow look how crazy that ranting person sounds.

The thing he is ranting about actually ended up being one of the best and most useful things ever.

Is what people will be saying 10 years from now on many various resurrected threads... :D
