I hate the new way of sending photos in Messages

Seriously. I used to just tap the camera icon and choose my photo. Now I tap the camera icon and it opens the camera, then I remember I can't do that anymore and have to click cancel and tap the app icon, then tap the photos icon.

Even when I remember to tap the right icon, I hate having to open the apps menu. I prefer to keep that menu hidden as it's quite ugly and unfortunately it stays open until you close it, so instead of just tapping the camera icon and choosing my photo, I have to tap the app icon, then tap photos, then choose my photo, then send it, then tap the app icon again to close the photos section, then tap the app icon again to close the apps menu.

    It's so annoying.

Alternative: tap the camera icon, it opens the camera, then tap the little "picture" icon up in the top left corner and it'll show your photo library. Slightly more clunky with an extra tap, but you don't have to use the apps menu.

Yeah, I do that too sometimes. I just miss tapping just the camera to get to my photo library.

I've noticed I send a lot less photos now because its just a pain. Also, a lot less FaceTime usage because of the new position of the flip-camera button. Why must they change things that are not broken.

The first few times I did it, I just figured I'd have to get used to it after a while. And now it's been a couple of months and it STILL bothers me so I finally had to post about my frustration.

Also, snapping a quick photo by tapping on the camera icon in Messages now saves the photo to your camera roll whereas before it didn’t which made much more sense to me because taking a photo with the Messages app mean it’s a temporary photo that I am just going to send right away. Now I have to go to the Photos app, delete the photo and also delete it from the recently deleted folder which is a pain in the ass.

Because I don't like the apps menu to be constantly open, so I have to tap the Apps icon, then tap photos, then send my photo, then tap the apps icon again to close photos, then tap the apps icon again to hide the apps.

This is what I have to do now. 6 taps to send 1 photo.
Before, I could tap 1 time on the camera icon and swipe the photo up and it would automatically send it.

Agreed. All I’ve heard from friends and family is that the new update makes everything more difficult. I was swearing at my damn phone at the grocery store while FaceTiming my wife because I needed the camera to flip and I couldn’t get out of the new interface

I submitted feedback to Apple multiple times during the iOS 12 beta period about this! The UI change is incredibly frustrating to me (still to this day) and I hate that it saves photos from Messages to my Camera Roll! Ugh, maybe they’ll EVENTUALLY listen and change it back.

I hate the way that apple are turning iMessage into a platform.

Why does (seemingly) everything need to be a platform?

Swiss knife syndrome I call it.
Everything and the bloody kitchen sink.

I wish they'd leave things alone. Some things, like many humans, are good at one thing… and that's just fine by me. But no… suddenly it has to be a "platform"…

Sounds like you’ll just have to deal then.

When this option first changed it was a pain as I kept opening camera, now I’m used to it I just hit the Photo Album icon that’s sat below the camera icon and all is fine and dandy, it just takes some getting used to.

Though I did prefer the old way.

Yup, a major step backwards. I hate all the new apps integrated in Messages, but this is the worst change in quite a while for my personal usage.

I’m sure you will, I was on the beta of iOS 12 and it took me the whole cycle of the beta to get used to it.

Serious first world problems. "I can't remember which icon to tap". Sad.

I'm not a fan of having a whole extra row taken up with just one icon for no real reason other than just because essentially. So just sticking either to going to the camera and going to photos from there, or sharing photos from the Photos app itself.

Pretty much being able to post about anything on an internet forum falls under something like that. Kind of neither here nor there really.

I feel like smacking the UX guy who made that change. Not only do you have to the tell the other person to hold on while you flip the camera but sometimes going back you accidentally end the Facetime call.

I also agree with the OP about the photos link in messages.

I hate the FaceTime change with a passion. I have accidentally disconnected several FaceTime sessions because I accidentally hit the red x while trying to just swipe down to close the FaceTime control panel that appears when you want to switch cameras. Sooo frustrating.

Yeah... I'm not a huge fan of the new way to send photos in messages either.

This is how Apple is going to get us to use our phones less.

The other thing that annoys me is in the messages app I can send multiple pictures at once. But doing the same from photos app sends an iCloud link. Annoying as heck.

Actually no. It’s not sad. Paying £1200 + for a damned phone which comes with what is supposedly the worlds best OS (According to Apple) and the changes are driving people to distraction. True we wouldn’t have these issues in a third world country. But we aren’t. So yes, first world problems that actually could be fixed.
