It's definitely slower than the Air? Does 100mHz make that much of a difference?

I was under the impression that it wouldn't be very noticeable or noticeable at all for day to day use.

That's funny, because I just bought a retina iPad Mini and the screen sucks (yellow on one side and reddish on the other). The iPad Air was perfect out of the box. It's just the luck of the draw with these retina screens, and sometimes you get a bad one. If you got a good screen, consider yourself lucky and enjoy the device! :D

Really, far and away better? You need to return your Air to the Apple Store, something is wrong with it. My Air's screen is easily equal to my Mini R's screen in every way to my eyes. I do find the Air's screen has a little more vibrant color & contrast than the Mini R's screen, but both are excellent.

As a disclaimer, I've always thought the original iPad and Mini were completely acceptable, not displaying the totally unusable "Etch-A-Sketch" pixelated screen some seem to suggest.

Well yes the iPad Air screen is nice but mini is a wow! Yes I always use hyperbole. The Air feels like a pad of paper compared to the minis sheet of paper feel.

I don't know if you meant Extra inches leads to Extra ppi, but if you did, its actually the opposite, at least as far Apple & Ipads are concerned.

Air = 2048 x 1536 @ 264ppi
Mini R = 2048 x 1536 @ 326ppi

He's saying there's no replacement for displacement! In this case square inches of screen real estate.

I got both the Air (128gig LTE Verizon) and the rMini (32 gig wifi), and strangely enough the mini feels heavier, fatter and it's harder to read the tinier type... Was thinking of passing this mini to my mom for a Christmas present, but I think the ultra fine retina display will make text too hard for her to read... Definitely something to consider for people with poor eyesight

I mean my choice would be (actually is) the Air because I like better the bigger screen given the same resolution. Sure the Mini R looks sharper but 264ppi is still pretty good.

Then you should try not to, or use smiley's to denote your use of this device in your speech (or type). It comes across as very annoying when you don't state it in your type, as we can't see you and we go by what you type only. ;)

Hyperbole

Np

Buy her an original mini, reading text with it is fine. Unless she has a bunch of Techie friends telling her how crappy the screen is she'll love it.

The mini's screen is far and away better than the iPad Air's screen guys... eeek! please don't get mad at me. I really want to keep both but the mini is far superior to the air in terms of screen quality.

OK, you and I must have gotten completely different devices. I thought we were talking about Apple's iPad Air and Apple's iPad Mini retina. But reading your comments while holding, and looking at my devices I realize I am mistaken.

Yes definitely.

I had a really good run...up until the Air.

Exactly. In other words: Panel lottery.

Your thread is extremely misleading. You've admitted that your not basing your assessment on PPI or contrast ratio or some other metric. You're basing your assessment on the fact that your Air's screen is "more yellow" and your rMini's screen is "more blue".

As I said in my previous post, I'm sure I can find one unit of each of these products where the opposite is true. It's called the panel lottery for a reason.

Again, an extremely naive conclusion you've come to.
