I have a giveaway, to a deserving new home, of a 20" Apple Cinema Display with acrylic base (no crazing) and a DVI to ADC adapter, both of which are in original boxes and excellent condition. I've lugged these things around too long and hope someone can make good use of them. I do not want to recycle them (have you seen how they heave these electronics into a metal bin? sad.).

The only stipulation is that you pay the shipping costs. Simple, huh. I am in Orange County, Calif. 92677 for shipping calculation purposes.

I also have two Cubes - one souped up and the other is stock - but that's for a later post.

Please advise, comment. Thank you.

I’m interested. I currently have a Quicksilver & MDD that have no monitor. Another would pair supremely well & go very well with my other two acrylic 23 inchers.

Hi radiologyman
Yes. Your EveryMac link is the correct one.
What compute power are you contemplating for each child? Their ages? (a sort of how long will these computers last technology-wise question.)

Children are 16, 6, 4 yo. We have 3 MacBooks, one is mine, one is used by my wife and 1 is for the kids. I would think that doing homework can be easier on bigger screen and may connect MacBook to external monitor. Do you think your Cinema screen will be easier to read on in comparison to 2009 MacBook Pro or 2011 MacBook air?

Put me in the lineup if everyone else passes on the cinema display. I have a mac mini that would love to have a monitor attached to it. :)

I sold mine, and have regretted it. I had a pair of them on my G5 for a long time and sold them a few years ago. I wish I had kept one of them, but oh, well. I'm sure it'll be snapped up in no time!

I definitely think a large monitor is beneficial. I have a Monoprice (monoprice.com) 27" display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 @ 60 Hz which is close to Retina display specs. With a large display, more apps can coexist on the same screen. This display was on sale from Monoprice (sign up for promo messages); they have great prices on HDMI cables too. The resolution on the Cinema Display is not as good as this one. I do not recommend using VGA output; use DVI or HDMI. You may need an adapter for each Mac

I connect to my MBP via HDMI and frankly, my tired eyes need the help. I relegate little-used apps screens to the MBP such a Messages and Calendar and I have currently seven pages open on the Monoprice device. I do not use full screen but prefer to arrange the Display such that a piece of any screen is in view no matter what screen I am currently using. Side by side viewing is great too. Any screen is a mouse click away, no Dock access (mine is automatically hidden when not used), or using Command+Tab to find one in the horizontal list.

In short get good devices for the kids. I think the Cinema Display is great for collectors

Sorry for the untimely response but if still interested, this 20" ACD belongs in your collection. In original box, this weighs 23-25 lbs; if you need the DVI to ACD adapter add another 3 lbs. I'm in the 92677 zip code. Calc the shipping cost and see if you want to pay that.

I have one teeny-tiny request. I have a Quicken data file from the Power PC/ OS X era that I need converting to a QIF output format. I am rebuilding a financial DB with Bankivity 6. This file fills in a gap.

please reply to <mythreadname> at yahoo

I'm working my way through the responses in this list.

For those of you interested in either or both Cubes there is a logistical problem. The power supply I have in hand is bricked. The other one and second Cube are in storage, buried. As I mentioned in my response to RhianB above is that I need a Quicken for Mac (requiring PPC and OS X) backup converted to QIF. I was hoping my Cube in hand would be sufficient. But no such luck.

Getting a $148 Power supply from eBay for a one-time conversion seems silly. I had a dialog with a former CubeOwners club member, as was I, and he provided me with directions on reviving the power supply with a hairdryer. The capacitor on these things get frail and poops out. Spending $148 for a 25 year old used one (which is likely to fail) also seems more than silly but dumb for a one time use.

So my plan is to attempt a disassembly and take the PS to a TV repair guy to replace the capacitor. If all goes well, I can do the conversion and a release one Cube with a PS and keyboard. I'll be able to tell which one this is by the HD and memory capacity, stock or moded.

I cannot say with any precision when this will be done. But hang in there. I have this thread marked and will update as I make progress or ail.

Mrnoonan, I’m going to have to pass on this amazing opportunity - I’m in the final stages of a new home purchase, so your typical hobby fundage is all tied up in that purchase/closing process.

If it was even a few weeks earlier, I would’ve swung it as shipping is looking to be just north of $50 USD ie: great deal for a boxed Cinema Display.

Thank you for the offer! Maybe next time. Two mortgages are a b*tch lol.

@RhianB If you're letting it go, I'll pick it up. Adding another CD to my current setup would be great.

@mrnoonan FedEx Home Delivery (2 day) would be the affordable option for me - assuming the display and adapter are still available.
