iPod touch I have a problem accessing wi-fi

i got an i-pod touch from my friend, so its used and i cant get online. I put my i-pod right next to my friends wireless router and my grandfathers too with. The ipod showed a low connection and when i tried to aceses thesse my ipod said unable to connect. also my i pod is the 1g ipod touch with 16 gb both connections were unlocked. if u have any information that could help me that would be nice 🙂
