I have a town named after me!

I was staring at one of the posters in our Biology class and I almost fell over when I saw where it was made: Skokie, IL. A short 45min hop over Lake Erie from my house.

I can't even visit their website without bursting out laughing:

Oops, my bad. I was looking at the Southwest timetable and forgot that Skokie (Actually Chicago Midway 😀 ) is in a different timezone.

Oh, and first names are great, but I'm shooting for last names. My first name certainly isn't skok, it's Matthew.

I'll second that. Having a disease named after you is generally NOT a good thing. 😱 🙂
 
Interesting thread...I did a quick search and was surprised to discover that there are actually two towns in the U.S. named Rachel - one in Nevada and one in West Virginia.

I'v got a town in England (well, a hamlet, really) named after my family name. Absolutely nothing famous ever came from there EXCEPT the hamlet was noted for the number of hangmen it produced 😱 😕

So if you're looking for a short drop with a sharp stop, I guess... but 😱

I've got quite a few towns and churches in Ireland and Scotland (and a castle there, too) that bear my surname or a variant thereof and somehow a slathering of sections in Winnipeg.

And my surname is very uncommon.
It helps to have a 6th century saint in your lineage.
