I had a problem not unlike this once. I went to Home Depot and asked for help, they sent me home with a bottle of Ortho Weed-B-Gon. I hooked it up to my hose (stop it) and sprayed it over the lawn. It was barely enough to cover the whole lawn, and it had a minimal effect on the weeds.

So I went back to Home Depot and bought four more bottles - I sprayed two on the lawn that day, and two more a week later. It worked like a champ! The weeds withered and died, and the grass continued to look great.

A caveat, I used FAR more than the label said to, but when I did, it worked.

I do a very similar thing. I cover less ground than recommended on the bottle when doing my first pass int he spring. I use 6 bottle total on my yard when I should be using half of that. Most of the time this takes care of it for me with only spot treatment needed.

Crabgrass was the bane of my existence last year. The best way to get rid of it is to use a pre-emergent in the spring and fall. I did that last fall and again this spring, we will see what happens. I also picked up some Drive XLR8 for spot treatment of crabgrass only (http://www.amazon.com/Drive-Herbicide-Gallon-KILLS-CRABGRASS/dp/B0058W42QS). This stuff is supposed to work great for spot treatment and hopefully I will not have to find out this year.

I do the whole dethatch and over seed in the fall, along with an over seed in the spring. My lawn use to be full of dandelions, and all kinds of weeds but after 4 years it is finally to a decent state.

It was my hope.

This. But for me, a lot of it just came back. Now I'm just going to till a spot in my lawn where a tree was once removed and hire a service like my other neighbor did.

I dunno, after years of trying to grow a lawn and keep it decent, I've switched sides and now am interested in native groundcovers that will grow naturally. Yea, ok, weeds.

I'm actually fertilizing the weeds in my front yard so that they will fill in everywhere, and then I'll use a weedwhacker to keep them at modest heights.

Well, hi-dee-ho, good neighbor. So THAT why my lawn has so many weed, despite my meticulous weed control program. You weed seed is making commando raids on my lawn.:p

Anyhow, you need to find out what kind of weed you're dealing with. My lawn had a lot of dollar weed. Scott's Feed and Weed worked great against dollar weed. Now I'm having some crab grass sprout up. I've been having dig them out by hand. I'm working on aerating my lawn to get the grass to grow deeper roots. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a thick lust lawn that will crowd out any attempt by my neighbor's weedy lawn to establish a foothold.

The Scotts Halts crabgrass preventer works pretty well. I put it on a little thicker than what the directions say on the back of the bag. You do have to put the Halts on before the seeds can germinate though so if you are already seeing crabgrass then Halts will likely not help you this season. The Drive XLR8 stuff I linked to above is also great for spot treatment mid season.

The best way to get rid of crabgrass is to actually dig it up. That stuff can kill a whole lawn quick. But make you you treat that stuff like asbestos as the seeds can spread quick. You want to get down to bare soil and make sure you get all of the roots up. Then just spread fresh seed.

You should do what they do in south St. Louis and burn your lawn in the fall, or was it in the spring, I can't remember. It's been a while since I lived in your town.

I've never heard of that in STL.

Anyways, thanks for the recommendations guys. I'll get to a Home Depot or whatever and try buying something to get rid of them. Might try that Ortho weed-b-gone

I saw it quite a bit in the city. Of course they have smaller lots, but it's one way to handle zoysia.
