OK you long time iMac users. I'm sure this has been address before so please forgive me. At times my mouse jumps around and seems to have a mind of its own. I have it connected to my key pad. Is there a setting to play with or is this typical? Would a wireless keyboard and mouse solve the problem?

Try a black mousepad. Solved my problem with the pointer jumping all over the screen (usually jumping randomly to a corner of the screen). I think it was the grain pattern of the wood of my keyboard drawer that was throwing it off.

Are you using the stock wired mighty mouse?

By "connected to keypad" you mean the keyboard?

What kind of surface is the mouse running on?

The only real difference on Apples Wireless Mighty Mouse is that it uses a laser as opposed to an LED in the wired. Like mentioned above it might be better because of the surface you run it on to use a solid mouse pad. Or buy a different style desk :)

    Brother, I feel your pain.

Once, every 2 weeks or so, my wired mighty mouse decides it doesn't want to go "UP".

I have tried everything, but eventually I found that if I turn the ****er up side down, and really agitate the "pea", it finally comes around.

Annoying, to be sure, but not life-threatening. ;)

I think the OP was talking about mouse movement, not the dreaded stuck Mighty Mouse ball syndrome;)

I think the OP means that his mouse would jump from time to time without any further notice. I have the same thing for some reason even though I am using a hard surface mouse pad. Maybe I should test and see if the BT MM has the same issue

Thanks for the tips. I will get a black mouse pad and see if the helps. I thing I will get the wireless mouse as well. I have not had a wired mouse for years and hate it when the tail gets hung up when dragging things.
