I have a Yamaha TC-66II Cassette player that stops about 3 seconds into playing a tape, does the same with rewinding and fast forwarding.

Any ideas? All the belts seem to be intact. Pictures and video coming soon.
 
I suppose something in the tape path senses the tension of the tape, and cuts off when the tension goes up (end of tape), and that sensor is out of adjustment, or just faulty. A good cleaning might help.
