i am not the right guy to ask re: working with DV footage. hopefully Multimedia (a member here) will pop his head in and offer an opinion, he knows his stuff.

i do not know how feasible doing a RAID1 with an internal and an external drive is.

well, not internal, just external. Its an older 250 GB FW 400 hard drive. Since I won't be using all that space, I'd like to make that a RAID 1 for extra security on my back ups.
 
AFAIK, you cannot do RAID1 on one physical disk with 2 partitions. its needs to be two actual disks. (unless the FW400 drive has two disks inside one enclosure)

bedsides, doing RAID1 on one disk (even if possible) defeats the point: if the drive dies, you are screwed.

yeah, that makes sense.. sorry, I'm really new to this whole raid thing so forgive the stupid question.
