I will receive my MBP this week and since I am used to 27inch iMac 5K display I have been looking for an external display. Apart from XDR which is too expensive, there are none. Anything that is out there has less ppi, less brightness (even the ones that advertise as HDR have less brightness) worse color and worse viewing angles than the MBP display. Even for 2000$ you cannot get something good enough to match it.

I find this really weird. The best option is LG 5K ultrafine and even that is too expensive since it is basically a 5 year old panel today.

Compared to everything else on the market, if the XDR display was around 3500$ with stand, it would be an instant buy for me.

There's plenty of options. Eizo has some with wider gamuts and near zero bloom that cost between $1500-4000 depending on model. Their best model has better overall specs but cost a lot more than the XDR.

The XDR is the best considering its overall specs and macOS integration. But the display industry is fast moving so what will see in a year or two will be even more awesome.

If the display industry is so fast moving, how is it possible that after 5 years or so, LG Ultrafine 5K display or the iMac 2017 Display is basically unmatched unless you move to much higher price tiers? Even the best Eizo EV3285 is actually inferior to my iMac screen. It has 350 nits brightness vs 500 on mine and 1000+ on my MBP. It doesn't have 5K, iMac has 5K. It might have better color gamut and that's it. And still it costs as much as a new 5K iMac, which has the screen for free.

So no, it seems like display technology actually got stuck somewhere and there are only a handful monitors which have mini LED or OLED and have HDR support like the XDR displays of Apple. And they all cost 4000$.

To be honest, if I could use my 5K iMac as a standalone display, I'd do exactly that instead of selling it.

Yep only apple doing anything between 4k and 8k anymore dell had a good one 6 years ago it lasted a year so presumably they sold in very low numbers, but now you are stuck with 4k or 8k. The ASUS 4k pro art looks like good screen 600 nits currently e buyer at a good price https://www.ebuyer.com/900663-asus-...MIidS1-cCb9AIVW-ztCh2uaQILEAQYDCABEgLpvfD_BwE
