I have lost all of my favourites/bookmarks which I have saved on my iPhone, why would these disappear? I don’t have them linked to iCloud, however my storage has got low. Any help on how I can get these back or why this has happened would be much appreciated.

It's hard to say how they might have disappeared. Do you have a backup of your iPhone?
Do you have any other iPhones? My bookmarks are shared among my other iPhones.
Regardless, OP didn't use iCloud so maybe we can figure out how to help recover the bookmarks.
unfortunately not, I think I’ve lost them forever. iCloud is off on safari, turned it on and my favourites still never appeared. Thanks so much for your help guys

iCloud is not great for a lot of things, but for bookmarks, contacts & keychain syncing, its actually very good.
Wait, you don’t have a backup or iCloud but concerned about scratches and cosmetic damages like nobody else on the internet given your history. Why?
Without iCloud, an iCloud backup or an iTunes/Finder backup, I don't think you'll be able to recover your bookmarks.
If your Mac OS X login has your iCloud login associated, you can definitely recover your favorites.
Go to www.icloud.com ➜ settings and Recover Bookmarks on the bottom.

For that to work, you'd need to have iCloud enabled for Safari, which the OP did not have.

Let's back up for a second. I just realized we don't know whether you were using Safari or a different browser. Was it Safari? If so, could you post your Safari settings screenshots?
Also which iPhone do you have and what iOS version is it on?
