I have had both in my possession for the last week. I am coming from the X and am blown away by the screens on both of these phones. But I am literally torn to my core about which I should keep. On one hand, I had the Pro Max first and used it for several days and loved it, although I was very aware and afraid it was going to slide out of my pockets (I wear shorts a lot and scrubs to work). I also noticed it doesnt fit in my 4Runner's cupholder like my X and the 11 Pro do.

I think I would be completely happy with the 11 Pro's size and use since I am coming from the X. But at the same time, I love the gorgeous screen and larger screen on the Max. I really just need some advice from yall, cause either way I know I am going to be happy with either phone, I think.

Sounds like you should stay put. You’re happy now and have some clear annoyances with the Max.

Plus, if you use the phone in bed at all, you’ll appreciate the smaller size.

Only you, only you can decide which is the keeper. They’re same phone sans screen size. If your good with the X/Pro sized screen then it’s decided. You win either way.

I agree with you there. I do appreciate the smaller size of the Pro, but I did get so used to using the Max. I think you made it a little easier to decide. I don't have a purse that I put my phone in like most women I know that have the 11 Pro Max do. But at the same time, that screen on the Max is freaking bomb.com.

EDIT: I do keep my iPad with me for larger viewing and I also use my MacBook Pro quite a bit.

Love my Pro Max here but it’s all about that screen real estate. I can find somewhere to keep if it means I get to use big screen. Older I get the bigger I appreciate screens being LOL. Makes phone harder to lose being bigger, too You literally don’t lose either way though. Glad Apple didn’t make camera compromises and etc between Pro and Pro Max.

You make a very valid point, although I think that would make the decision easier. lol

Go for the iPhone 11 Pro Max since you have an iPhone X already.

Keep the iPhone X for sports if you find it too big for that (or just get an Apple watch).

Or just keep both, and switch on and off. That has been my approach. Not financially responsible, but I am happy 😃

I am coming from an iPhone 7. I did not go with the 7 plus because of the size. I carry mine in a nice rather thick leather horizontal belt holster. My 7 was in an Otterbox defender and fit loosely in the holster so I could retrieve it easily. The 11 pro in hard clear case fits the same and it's screen is the same size as the entire 7 so I am very happy.

The thing I love most about my Xs Max is what I hate the most about my Max... the overall size. Yes, it's big and bulky, I wear athletic shorts often and it slaps around in my pockets, yes it's a pain sitting down with jeans on when it's in my pockets, yes it's hard to one hand it.... BUT... that screen, that wonderful screen, not to mention the battery life, make more than worth it. I'm a 6'1 guy w sausage fingers and typing on a small screen is not fun for me and I don't like how content is displayed on the 5.8 inch version. I'm just waiting on the best Black Friday deal then I'll be rocking a Pro Max.

Side note: my wife loves the plus sized phones also. She can't stand the smaller versions. Display content as well as battery life is a big factor for her as well. I tried last year to get her on the Max, but the she's a home button fan. Maybe this year I can get her on a Pro Max, we'll see...

At home, in office, in hotel, I’ve always got the iPad right there too. Grab it instead of 5.8” iPhone if more than a quick short text to type, and always for internet, media etc. Even in car pulled off road trying to find and book hotel, can put iPad on phone hotspot.

So my use of the iPhone, when I would really need/want a larger screen, occasionally happens, but is relatively limited. But I would have to lug a larger /heavier phone with me, all the time, every day of the year.

It's very simple? you want a big phone or not? I hate big phones so I went with the iPhone 11 Pro 512GB Gold color and I am more than happy with it. That's as large of a phone I'd want, anything more is overkill for me. Just my 2 cents.

I am literally torn to my core

Hopefully, you got that stitched up. :)

I had the X, and I longed for a plus sized iPhone in that form factor. I've had the XS Max and now the Pro Max, and I love that size. I dislike the smaller sized phones. The size of the 11 Pro Max has not bothered me in any way: it carries well in pants, shorts, shirt pocket, feels great in my hand, etc. I love the extra screen real estate, especially for taking and viewing photos and reading text.

I suggest you get the Pro Max and a vehicle with larger cup holders. :)

I went to the 11 Pro from an 8 plus, and I will tell you that I have been *really* liking the smaller sized phone. I no longer am aware of it 24/7 when it's in my pocket, yes, it fits in my cupholders, and I can actually reach the whole screen one-handed again. I am BEYOND thrilled with the upgrade.

That said, I do wonder if coming from an X, if the upgrade is substantial enough for you. Frankly, I'm not even sure on day to day use if I'd know if I was using an X or an 11 Pro. Yes, the camera IS nice, and I love the fact I no longer have to worry about running out of space (went with the 512 gig; yes, I was running out on the 8 plus' 256). But, still, the phones now cost as much as mid-level laptops, so personally I feel like I have to be a bit more judicious when choosing to upgrade. Good luck!

I have an Xs max (similar dimensions) the best thing I did for it was to put one of those covers with the ring thing at the back. I hated those covers initially but can’t be without it now. When it’s in my shorts I have a little clip cord that clips at the belt loop then clips again at the case ring to prevent it falling if it slips from the pocket 😁

If you were torn between Corn Flakes or Wheaties, would we be able to make the right choice for you?

I had the same issue when I got the XS versus the XS max. I ended up keeping the XS because the max was just too big and stuck out a bit in my jeans pocket and ultimately the smaller form factor was easier to use the XS one handed, and I’m a one-handed user. Also the cases on the max made the phone too bulky for me. This is all personal preference however.

I can't comment on the new phones but I can offer thoughts from my experiences going to an 8+ from a 6s.

The size of the 8+ took some adjustment from the 6s both but eventually I got used to it. Now when I have to use a 7 for work or do something on my mother's 8 they all seem so small. Again, you'll get used to it if the benefits of having the larger screen size appeal to you.

As far as in car storage, yes the larger phones are not as cup holder friendly. Easily solved by getting a dash mount. I personally use a Kenu Airframe and have loved it. I've never had much of an issue with shorts, jeans, suit/dress pants. Yeah it's larger and bulkier but again, the benefits in my case have absolutely been worth it. I can't speak to scrubs but given how much time I've spent in hospitals and around docs, nurses and other medical professionals lately, many seem to be carrying the larger phones and make it work.

I could be way off base here, but when I read your post, it seemed to me that you really like the Pro Max but are concerned with size but could settle for the Pro and be happy. Don't settle. Get the one you want, you'll enjoy those benefits of it and make the rest work. Just my thoughts for whatever that's worth to you.

To each his own and there’s no wrong choice if your’re happy. You seem to want the Max size but feel your compromises will be too much over time.

I went from X to 11 Pro Max. I thought the size would be oversized for my pants pockets or unwieldy to hold.

I acclimated to having the Max in less than a months time that when I see my hand me down X in my sons hands, I’m soooooo glad I got the Pro Max.

If you wear skinny jeans or business dress pants daily, the Max size will be stupidly large. Maybe that occasional family event you wear dress pants it’s a problem. Otherwise most pants are fine.

After a while you’ll feel this IS the normal size. I’m so used to it, I actually forgot I got the Pro Max sometimes.

I do a lot of streaming, gaming, watch Twitch and I’m enjoying the extra real estate on the display. Next iPhone will be Max size.

If you regret after you choose there’s always next years upgrade. ;)

Personally I like switching between smaller and larger form factor from one generation to the other. Go with the 11 Pro Max this time, and get the 13 Pro next time around.

Either ways, you still have a 14-day return window if you're not happy with the size of the Pro Max.

I find that the Iphone 11 Pro Max is not much different then my 8Plus so I say go with the max if you like the plus size , if you prefer a smaller form go with the 11 Pro.

I had a 6S Plus for 2 years before switching to a 10, which I had for 2 years as well. This time around I did try an 11Pro Max for about a week and returned it. I kept a regular 11 Pro instead. The Max is just very uncomfortable to carry around or use with one hand. While the plus models were about the same size, they had a shorter screen, which made them ergonomically fine. The Max screen is way too tall for me. Also, I had both the Pro Max and the Pro side by side for almost a week and the battery life appeared to be extremely similar between the two, so to me the Max doesn't have any real advantages over the smaller one.
It's all a matter of personal preference though, so I don't think anybody will be able to decide this for you.
