    Usually i launch /sbin mount uw / r watever

    Then : root passwd

It then asks me to to enter new password etc

Now when i have root and type passwd it just says invalid socket r something
How do i change password whwn have :root

It would help if you would cut and paste the exact text of the message. Certainly no one here can help you if all you can say is "r something". Best if you could include the exact text of the command that caused the error too.
